Event Description

Come join us for a relaxed and interesting Picnic, the fourth in our series over the years.
This year we will be returning to the Pilgrim Memorial State Park in Plymouth MA!  We will be obvious as the 'usual suspects' in Steampunk/Victorianesque costume.  If I have my kit together there will be some signage to help direct you on your way.

The endless kettle will be on for tea, tea cups and tea in plenty and we will be bringing favorites to share such as deviled eggs....Vikki likes 'em, so that's a good recommendation!  We will probably stop at a local KFC and pick up box lunches for ourselves; being right in the Downtown area there are plenty of places to find comestibles if you don't bring such with you.
We suggest you bring a couple of chairs or picnic blanket, utensils and something to drink...keep in mind this is a State Park, so no alcohol PLEASE!

Parking is usually ample, and with the majority of the tourists gone there should still be fair weather (we hope) and light breezes to sustain us.
As for entertainments, there are MANY sights to see within walking distance, and for entertainment we will be bringing Croquet and Kubb sets.
For those wishing to act the tourist, we can direct you to the largest granite sculpture on the East Coast, a couple of Baldwin compressed-air locomotives and other sites within a couple minutes drive.

I will be updating this Site as time and materials permit.

Hello!
First, my apologies for our late arrival at the Picnic....I know some of you came by and waited a while, then left.  I assure you it was not my intention to cause trouble,  it's that unavoidable (meaning dumb on my part) delays kept me from getting there until 12:40 PM.
So please accept my apology!  Please?
It's been said that strategy is the realm of the amateur, logistics the realm of the professional.  It's obvious I'm still an amateur, as I made some omissions (not enough plates, for example) and ran about before the event trying to gather stuff that may not have been needed.

Second, we had fun!  the table was groaning, the Kubb set got some use, and conversations in plenty, along with the usual interactions with the Mundanes wandering by.

An absolutely wonderful idea!  I've a few bits and bobs laying around that I've been looking to rid myself of, and if I can simultaneously find them a good home while also finding myself a few new treasures, then all the better!

Good Morning!...or at least it is as I type this...

It may be a bit late, but Lady Raven had an idea for a Steampunk Swap at The Picnic.  I will lay out a stout blanket for items you may wish to trade away, and persons wishing to obtain said items may negotiate with the owner.
Note: This is NOT a merchanting setup...the Picnic is a social event, and anything  in the vein of a materials swap is strictly voluntary.

You need not reply to this, we're just putting it out there.

EXCELLENT WEATHER UPDATE!
Looks to be partly cloudy in the AM, with temps in the mid-70s.
The sea breeze is usually reliable for added comfort, and there is plenty of shade.

And NO ROAD RACE this year!  WOO-HOO!!!

As a tease to you all, here is someone's expression of enthusiasm for our small town's most Famous Artifact:

Excellent, Mr. & Mrs. Bryan!
Bring yourselves, perhaps chairs or a blanket to sit upon (I go with chairs, I'm getting too old for that 'lying on the ground' nonsense), perhaps a box lunch or picnic basket for yourselves, and perhaps if you wish, an item to share.

There are plenty of places nearby where you can purchase a lunch if you wish; we will probably go to KFC in nearby Kingston (8 minute drive) and get a take-out, as usual.  BBQ, Chinese, pizza, Italian, doughnuts, and a plethora of seafood and ice cream joints are around.
The Jenny Grist Mill is both a working grist mill AND an ice cream supplier, up a comfortable, shady and visually calming path along the Town Brook.  IIRC The Doctor and Mrs. Teal said they enjoyed the walk.
We will bring deviled eggs to share, some of my homemade sweet pickles, the usual olives and cheese, and the steaming kettle for those wishing tea or (shudder) coffee...I'll even bring the espresso pot.  Lemon, cream and sugar of course.
We do NOT recommend any alcohol as it is a State Park...incidentally, the smallest Park in the State!

The point is to meet YOU folks.  Show up with the clothes on your backs and you will be given something.

As an update, I have since found out that the Founder's Monument nearby is the largest granite sculpture in the United States, NOT JUST the East Coast!

It's on our calendar.

What can we bring?

The Mrs. and I are just beginning to become active in real-life (as opposed to on-line) steampunk culture, so this will be a great way to meet some folks.

BUMP!  We have been slaving away in the Lab, but nothing new to report apart from the note from the Fire Department thanking us for the business.  We are glad they are nearby, and promise next time the fulminate of mercury will be stored more efficiently!

The picnic is still ON, of course, and will not conflict (to my knowledge) with any other local event....the runners went by last weekend, and it was interesting to note at least one of the female runners did the course barefoot!

ALSO, we have acquired a Croquet Set to go with the Kubb equipment...choices abound for entertainment.
We will be bringing a larger stove for more tea (and even COFFEE, gasp!) on demand.  The plus side to this is the risks of explosion have either been halved or doubled, depending on your outlook!

SEE YOU THERE!  HERE! WHEREVER!

Bribes cheerfully accepted!  We will be making deviled eggs, fresh lemonade (from scratch, of course) and perhaps other things...to be determined.
Bring what you will!
We will have a table or two with to lay things out....the doily(s) will be present.
Hot tea on demand.....

Myself and my wife are thinking of attending in order to try and make some new friends.  She's quite good in the kitchen and was wondering if she could whip up a batch of something to share?  Yes, we are more than willing to bribe people to be our friends with food, and we are unashamed of this.
