It was a PLEASURE meeting all of you tonight at the Brass and Burgers event. And I am PROUD to have seen so many turn out. I apologize to all if I sounded harsh. I didn't mean anything to be harsh, just a reminder that we all have a part in making steampunk work in SLC!
Barring any unforeseen explosions or escaped experiments, myself and my Lady shall be there. I wholeheartedly agree with Miss Parrish.
The ONLY reason I'm a "might" is because I'm unemployed and don't have a lot of money to spend, but it's pretty much 99.9% I'll be there, even if I don't buy anything. Why? 1) I want to meet all my new steampunk friends, 2) it's very close to where I'm living, but most importantly, 3) I think it's extremely important to support our newly blossoming steampunk community. And, in that vein, I'm afraid I need to say something here and do a small bit of chastising.
We all sit around whining and crying about how crappy SLC is for being so out of the loop and backwards and out of touch and we don't have a big steampunk community what's it going to take to get steampunk here and we don't have a convention and why can't we have something great like SteamCon or Steam Expo, but look at the kind of responses we receive from the very members of this local community.
One for sure attending and she instigated it. Two maybes, and I'll admit, I'm one of those, but look at how many were invited who didn't even make an effort to respond at all, let alone actually plan to attend. And almost the only comments posted were from people not even in SLC or Utah! How do all of us think we will ever be able to make a steam community get off the ground and be successful if we all sit around and don't make efforts to make it work?
It's not "someone else's job." It's all of ours. The only thing apathy builds is more apathy. A community like ours can only work if ALL the members support it, get involved and make it thrive. I sure hope to see more than two or three people at this event tonight!
[So..... as she steps down from her soapbox and toddles off into the aether, she hopes her words weren't too harsh and were understood to be said in only the most loving and supportive way................................]
i will try to get there after work hope to see you all there i'm off i hope by seven .
Unfortunately my dear, however I too, like Lady Kendra Dawn Ryves, must beg your forgiveness as I live in the heart of the Inland Sea Region also known as the Great Lakes Region and currently my itinerary does not make allowances for travels to the west. Please accept my gratitude for the invitiation and my sincere regret that I cannot attend.Steamily yoursGeorge Woodruff EU
I would love to be there, but alas, I live on the East Coast and no access to an airship for the occasion. I will be there in spirit.
