I hope that many of my wonderful Costume Walkabout walkers remember the San Diego Historic Streetcar that visited our walkabout last year at the January Steampunk Costume Walkabout at the Del Mar Antiques Show. Well, their 100th Anniversary is June 1, 2012!
San Diego Historic Streetcars, Inc. would like to host a Costume Walkabout to celebrate their 100th year! I know this is short notice, but the streetcars have been refurbished and we will be able to board the streetcar and take a ride (visit their website to see the beautifully refurbished 1912 Streetcar). Please visit the Photo Gallery section, go to Parades & Events and click on page 3.
Because the year would be 1912 – there is a WIDE range of costume timezones. Late Victorian, Edwardian/Titanic, STEAMPUNK (would love the mix of gidgets, gadgets and gizmos on the streetcar) and those who would serve as train conductors, ship captains, etc. Red Hat Ladies/Pink Princesses in their period-themed red and purple regalia. As always, use your imagination and everything goes!
Unfortunately, the Centennial celebration is on a Friday and I, like many, work a regular job and may not be available to enjoy this event. However, I do hope that some of you would enjoy the opportunity to be a part of this one-of-a-kind celebration!
Here are some details:
Event date/time: Friday, June 1, 2012 from 3pm to 7pm (Actual walkabout may occur at 5pm). FREE!!
Location: Trolley Barn Park is in University Heights at 1998 Adams Avenue 92116.
A changing location has been arranged specifically for the Costume Walkabout attendees (across the street from the Trolley Barn Park).
Parking is on-street . . . you may have to do some creative street negotiating.
There will be a bounteous (so I am told) raffle for the costume walkers as well as the public (one of the raffles being negotiated is a “Staycation” either at the Del Coronado or Catamaran). City officials and celebrities are being contacted by SD Historic Streetcars to “officiate” at the raffle.
If you are interested, please RSVP@costumewalkabout.com and let me know what time you may be available. This will help to “nail down” an actual group walkabout (and group photo) schedule. This is a PG-event . . . walkers of all ages and timezones are welcome!
