We have reserved the Pavilion and the Chautauqua will be headquartered there. It is very near Lamar's Camp (#4) on this MAP.
Please:
~ Follow this link and read & comply with Park Rules (FYI: the sheet that TPWD sent me says that alcohol is not allowed at all).
~ Leave pets and realistic-looking weapons at home.
~ BYO drinking water and mosquito repellent
~ Help pay for the Pavillion ($150) by chipping in cash to either Thereyet or Cruize (overage to go directly to the Battleship Texas Foundation).
The schedule is subject to change, but currently looks like this:
~ 10:00 - Noon -- Panels & Presentations Panel
~ Noon - 1:00 -- BYO picnic lunch and socialize (there is a snack bar on site that sells boxed lunches)
~ 1:30 - 2:30 -- Invade the Battleship Texas (BTW - she is a WWI vintage STEAMship), or museum, or whatever.
~ 3:00 - 5:00 -- Ballroom Dance Workshops (Waltz for sure, East Coast Swing and Foxtrot very likely)
Entrance to the park and museum are free. The observation deck of the Monument and Battleship have fees. We have arranged to get a group rate of $6.00 (vs. $12) for the Battleship - to make this work, we will need to pool funds (cash) on the day of the event and have one person go in to buy at least 15 passes at one time.
We plan to update this description as details develop.

Comment by A D Cruize on March 22, 2013 at 1:36pm TO GET TO THE PAVILION: Once you enter the Battleship half of the Park, go STRAIGHT where the signs say to turn right to get to the "Battleship" and "Concessions". The road will then curve to the right and the Pavilion will be on the left. It is OK to drive around the barricade - it is for us. There are 19 parking spaces once you turn left towards the Pavilion and there should be plenty of spaces a little further down the road by the Sundial.
PANELS & PRESENTATIONS WORKSHOP: We plan to start this at 10:00 sharp. Getting to the Pavilion a little early is a good idea.
BATTLESHIP INVASION: Groups of 15 or more can get discounted entry to the Texas. It will be up to attendees to make this happen (one person can collect cash and go in to buy tickets for their group).
DANCE WORKSHOP:
Weather permitting, this will be done on the flagstone deck that is due South of the sundial. The sundial is North and a little West of the Pavilion. We plan to start at 3:00 sharp. In case of rain, we will move this to the Pavilion. Lightweight, flexible-soled shoes are strongly recommended (the flagstones may be a little too rough for your best suede-soled ballroom shoes). Hoop-skirts, full dresses with petticoats or dangly bits of gear can sometimes get in the way - you may want to bring something to lift the front of these garments out of harm's way.
The weather forecast looks pretty good. High of 81 is predicted - there is a chance of afternoon showers and cloud cover should be around 90% all day (which will be great for outdoor photo ops on the U.S.S. Texas).
Please chip in on the cost. All collections over the $150 for the Pavilion will go directly to the Battleship Texas Foundation. Thereyet probably won't be there so see Cruize for this.
If you are a member of the 42nd Airship Battalion and have not received your patch, please remind Cruize at the Pavilion between noon and 3:00.
Comment by Aubrey Harding on March 17, 2013 at 1:09pm Would love to be there, I haven't been to an event yet. But I'm selling or trying to sell my art work at the Bayou City Art Festival this year.
Comment by A D Cruize on February 19, 2013 at 4:18pm Re Child Friendly: Yes, but Panels and Presentations will probably bore the younger ones to tears. And it is spread out over the day so folks can come late, leave early, etc.
Comment by Lorelei von Schmidt on February 19, 2013 at 10:29am is this gathering child friendly?
