The Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

Hey guys,

So I'm currently working for Goodwill Industries in their e-Commerce department. Basically when Goodwill recieves weird and potentially valuable items they send them to me to sell online at auction. Well the other day I got this box with 64 marching band jackets in it. They are all brand new, but it's just jackets and I have no idea what to do with them.

And then I got to thinking, they could potentially make pretty cool airship tunics or other steampunk type clothes with the right modifications. I'm just trying to get a feel for whether or not anyone would be interested in something like that. I'll probably list them in lots of 5 with a starting bid of $9.99, and I imagine that is what they will likely sell for in the end.

Would anyone here be interested in receiving a link to said auctions when they go up?

Thanks,

David

If I were outfitting an airship crew, I think I'd rather pay $5/jacket and get to choose the sizes, rather than have to buy 3 lots at roughly $30, and still not be sure of getting the right sizes. I know that would make your job harder, and I'm sorry, but adults come in a wide range of body types.

I understand. This is why I posted here. Typically the items we sell have to be listed for 7 days with a starting bid of $9.99, but given that these are somewhat unique there is the possibility for arranging different deals if enough people are interested, or if one person is interested in more than one jacket.

If you are anyone else was interested in buying several I would actually be happy to try and find the sizes you need. There seems to be a wide range within the box, but I couldn't guarantee without looking more in depth (literally!) that I'd have what you needed. So, if you already know or can figure out what sizes you'd be looking for, and this goes for anyone interested, let me know and I'll see what I can find next time I'm at work.

Finally, I just want to make it clear that I'm not in any way making money from this personally. I just really hate seeing anything go to waste, especially when any proceeds we do make go towards programs that help my local community. So thanks for your questions.

Cheers,

David

I like the idea and I've even thought of using band uniforms as the basis for a military costume, but I don't think this particular one will work for me. It has more of a Buck Rogers sci-fi look than vintage military. Plus, I'd have to do something about the sequins.
