The Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

I need help figuring out how to incorporate armor - pseudo-medieval leather armor, to be precise - into a Steampunk outfit.

The easiest thing, going by what photos I've found online, seems to be the one-pauldron look.  There's a problem with that:  I don't have a pauldron, and I don't have time, what with getting ready to move across the country and all, to make one in the next 2 weeks.

What I do have in the way of armor looks something like this:

(There are full legs made with the same articulation as the arms.  There's a hard leather yoke under the suede mantle.  And the 'skirting' on the body armor is about knee-length and comes to a rounded point.)

So what could I wear this with - all or in part - to convert from fantasy-medieval to some sort of time-traveler Steampunk look?

As always, it depends on what sort of character you want to be.

  1. The chest armor could be adapted as a corset
  2. I wear a single bracer with a glove to simulate an artificial arm (see my profile page)
  3. With the addition of some appropriate accessories, you could be a vampire hunter.

BTW - I like the armor. Did you make it yourself?

One quick solution might be something like this. When I bought this bracer, it already had the compass & sundial. I added the tiny sextant myself. The leather work is held together with rivets. You could cut out the back-of-the-hand piece, the straps, and the finger loops in just a few minutes. Riveting the parts together takes only seconds per rivet.

Here is another view of it being worn the day I bought it. As you can see, there is a strap across the palm of the hand as well as the more visible straps. I plan to add a very small brass telescope and a thumb-sized brass-framed magnifying glass to this one. I am also making others that will have ray gun parts attached.

The hard leather leggings you mentioned could possibly have a holster attached to one, and a set of utility pouches (& perhaps a knife sheath) attached to the other. From your photo, the leggings look to reach the middle of your thigh & you could reach the tops of them with your hand, so look to military surplus catalog photos of a tactical thigh holster for ideas. (Or just Google "Tactical Thigh Holster, LOL)

I'm trying to type this as quickly as I can, you mentioned that you're under a deadline...
