The Crossroads of the Aether
So, I've been looking into ways I can go about this. And I figured out that I want to do steel sprockets for the base/shaft of the lamp. I just don't know how I'd go about making such a thing, or if I can find someone else who specializes in metal works. So, I'm here asking for advice on what i can do to make the sprokets myself, and what are my options of finding someone who works with metal?
my first thought would be to scour places like ebay and etsy before trying to have something specific made. sprokets and gears of all sort are readily available in various materials and sizes. swap meets, craigslist and others are also good places to look. you could also look at timing gears from various automotive sources. theyre very sturdy, plentiful and half the time, can be found for nearly nothing, as once theyre worn out theyre really only good for either paperweights or recycling.
You could also try to find sprockets from bicycle gears. The multi-speed bikes have them in different sizes, which would make it easy to get the size you need.
Those are actually smart ideas. Better then my idea. After doing more research. I did decide I just want a big sprocket as the base. Which makes this a little easier.
