Finished outfits (and mostly finished mechanical voice box, hurrah!). Have a look? :)

Aside from the gown I'm putting together for the Teslacon ball, my outfits are finished. The first one is a very frilly, stereotypical porcelain doll look. I love how over-the-top it is, though I got quite warm while wearing it to take a photo (but then again, it's July and about 90 degrees outside).

My face is blacked out because I was making a godawful face at the camera.

Also, please note the wooden box to the left of the photo--this is the external machinery my husband is creating for his costume. The holes on the top have small blinking LEDs attached, and it looks super cool when it's turned on. He'll also be adding an exhaust pipe with some sort of dry ice/computer fan/9-volt battery propulsion system. Don't ask me how it works...I'm guessing some kind of sorcery is involved.

And the back has a gigantic, magnificent bustle!

The second one is a much simpler, more utilitarian (and more revealing, because deep down, I'm a saucy trollop, I guess) outfit. I'd purchased a too-large blouse at a thrift store with the intention of dying it brown, as it had some horrible stains on the sides and sleeves. The dark brown dye turned it pink, but I'm just going to go with the unusual color. This photo doesn't really do the color justice, but that's okay. 

Hips like a freight train for sure.

And...the mechanical voice box. :) I'm going to add some colored water to the vials and tubes, though I haven't decided what color to use yet. Suggestions are welcome! I'd like to stay away from green, though, as that's the fluid the Coin-Operated Boy is going to use for his "circulatory system." I still need to bend the wires a bit to make the jars/vials lay at a more normal angle, but aside from that, I think it's finished. It's heavier than I expected...I took it off ten minutes ago and it still feels like I'm wearing it, but I suspect I'll get used to it. 

There was more to this photo, but then I realized that certain body parts were practically hanging out. I cropped it for the sake of modesty.

Edit: I modified a men's vest pattern into an underbust with a corset back to go with the second outfit. The fit isn't perfect, mostly because of the large difference between my waist and hips and the fact that I didn't use boning or interfacing. There is a lot of puckering in the back because of the hip/waist thing, and also because I cut it to my husband's measurements, then altered it down. I had to take the waist in three different times...ugh! Still, it's not bad for what was basically a huge experiment in modifying a pattern. :)
