The Crossroads of the Aether
(First of all, I must thank Mr. Aloysius, who provided me positive response about this game.)
Greetings fellow Steampunk hobbyists, enthusiasts and aficionados!
We’re a small indie game developer called Mechanist Games, and we’re close to launching the alpha test version of our first title, City of Steam, and we would love to get support from the Steampunk community! Since the game is set in an industrial fantasy/steampunk world, we figured this may interest some of you.
If computer games aren't your thing, City of Steam is based off of a series of RPG books that David Lindsay, our GM/co-founder/lead designer published, so maybe it would be worth checking out if only for the artwork. The second one is a depiction of the world City of Steam takes place in, you can take a better look at the animated version with the Unity plugin here.

So, a little about the game (don’t worry, I’ll keep it brief!): City of Steam is a browser-based MMORPG created in Unity 3D (and loads of other in-house tools). This makes it a very accessible and light game (the whole thing is packed into mere megabytes of space), without sacrificing graphics or content. The entire world, called the World Machine, is an ancient mechanism of gears, pipes and machinery (some of whose functions have been long-forgotten or even entirely unknown). Even down to the smallest (biggest?] detail, City of Steam's world is industrial fantasy at its best.
If interested, feel free to come visit us to get more information and even talk to the developers: http://www.cityofsteam.com/
Edit:
Hey guys, City of Steam is now open and ready to play! All of you can join the game just by registering. Go here and start your journey into Nexus right now!
Thanks to your continuous support of our game, City of Steam has finally been approved on Valve's Greenlight approval system. We are thankful for everyone who voted for us and who spread the word! If you want to know more, you can find the full announcement here: http://cos.r2games.com/news/view/?id=1731
Also, we wrote up a dev journal (though delayed!), along with a video, about the showcase of City of Steam at PAX East and GDC 2013. The video itself is here:

I’ll also be happy to answer any questions or comments you have here, so feel free to drop me a line!

Permalink Reply by CoS_Ethan on August 9, 2012 at 2:23am Thanks for the compliment. We just got done with the third round of Alpha testing and it turned out to be another great weekend for us! Now we are heading for the fourth (also the last) Alpha Weekend starting on August 17th, featuring even more content and all 9 playable races. If interested, do remember to sign up for our newsletter for alpha key priority and choose your preferred races on 17th.

Permalink Reply by CoS_Ethan on August 9, 2012 at 3:44am Yes, we will offer subscribers alpha key and updates priority.
Permalink Reply by SuperDaveGulvak on August 12, 2012 at 6:26am When will you send out Keys for this upcoming Beta weekend? I subscribed but never got anything- not complaining just curious :)
Permalink Reply by CoS_Ethan on August 12, 2012 at 6:27pm Hi there, we will dispatch subscribers keys about 1 or 2 days before the Alpha kicks off.
Permalink Reply by SuperDaveGulvak on August 20, 2012 at 11:11am Had a good time running around w/ my goblin gunner Grent :) Didn't get to play as much as I'd hoped since I have 2 jobs now & had to use my time off for other less fun but necessary things. LoL definitely think I might have to scrape up a 2nd puter for the girl to surf her forums while I run around the World Machine :) Great job and look forward to full launch!
Permalink Reply by CoS_Ethan on August 21, 2012 at 2:00am Thanks for testing the game out, and glad that you enjoyed the playing. We've received lots of feedback so far, and will be looking into some of them! Surely, the game still has room for improvement, and we've been trying our best to implement more features/content before Beta. So looking forward to seeing you back then..
Permalink Reply by Ernest on September 3, 2012 at 10:05am I know I missed the alpha testing, however if possible, I would to be part of beta when it is ready, I will of course be signing myself in for this. I am a bit upset I missed the alpha tests.

Permalink Reply by CoS_Ethan on September 4, 2012 at 12:33am No worries, subscribers always have the priority for future keys and up-to-date game development. Beta will be rolled out in about 2 months, and I look forward to meeting you in The Refuge then.
Permalink Reply by Lord D'Arcy Lacumber Harty Esq. on September 3, 2012 at 10:14pm Yeah I missed the alpha testing as well; too bad I found out about this too late. I took a look at some of the videos on the site and the game looks phenomenal for being a browser-based game. I will be sure to stay up to date with this project and follow it up and hopefully get into the beta tests or the full game.
