The Crossroads of the Aether
I'm pretty new to steampunk and i have a few ideas for an outfit but i was wondering if anyone has any good tips/trick on certain parts on how to build it.
My ideas
Mouth Mask Breathing apparatus to small tanks
Top Hat/Goggles (obviously)
Some sort of shoulder pad system for one shoulder with maybe the tank and a machanism going down my arm?
Rest would gentlemanly attire
Any Suggestions on how i could build/purchase these items?

Creating Modern Artifacts by Thomas Willeford. It contains how-to guides for making goggles, a breathing mask and a mechanical arm, among other things. I highly recommend it, and besides, Thomas is a nice guy.
You can find it on Amazon here

2. Like I said, Look for spats sold at scottish pipe band shops. These are mostly between $20-$40 and made of real wool
3. Top hats, try Ebay, 2nd hand shops.
4. Do try to get your hand good in a sewing machine, if you dont own one yet. Try to find one that can sew through leather, or try to find a tailor to make you leather shoulder pads. Also, try shops that sell 'Larp' (live action role playing) shops, they mostly sell shoulder pads.

If you want a really long-lasting quality top hat, I bought one from here, and I've had it for quite a while now. It's extremely sturdy and I'm surprised how I haven't destroyed it by now (I'm not the most careful person). That is my recommendation for you, otherwise I agree that YouTube is a good place to look at for making your breathing apparatus. Best of luck with the crafting! :)

Now if your set on just a lower-face mask and then wearing goggles that's fine but you can also use a gas mask for in place of them.
