The Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

Full disclosure: this is my own project.

Further note: It has been my life-long dream to become a writer and to publish a book series. I'm doing just that right now, and I couldn't be more thrilled (or terrified). I've entitled the trilogy Tales Misforgotten, with book one named The Unshorn Thread. The story is both Steampunk and Fantasy. The fantasy story revolves around the legend of King Arthur, while the Steampunk side of the story is set in a post-Civil War USA, when the ironclads and Gatling guns of the war drove invention across the still-splintered nation. You can meet characters from both Tall Tales (ala Davy Crockett) as well as from history (like Cassius Marcellus Clay, namesake of Muhammad Ali) in this story, as well as characters from Greek myth, Celtic legend and some who are entirely new. Check it out at Tales Misforgotten on the Kickstarter site.

Why do you need $10,000?

I'm trying to fund the project for $8,000 because I have to pay a copyeditor, an illustrator, and to do some publicity to raise awareness for the book series.

A good or "real" copyeditor can easily cost $40 hourly, and going through the cheaper services doesn't work if you're dealing with multiple vernaculars and the like. Illustrators are equally expensive. My Illustrator was actually paid $4,000 for the last book he worked on. If you take into account the cost of rewards ($2,000) and the cut which Kickstarter and Amazon take ($800), then the actual amount left to work with is actually quite modest, and would likely almost entirely go to publicity efforts. What with the thousands upon thousands of self-published works out there, publicity is essential to raising one's visibility.

Hope that helps and have a good day, sir!

I love this. Shall see what I can do to help.

Thanks so much for the kind words! We've just hit $6,000! I'm doing publicity at Comic Con NY this weekend. Hoping to drum up further support so that people can get their goodies and I can pay the people who are helping me put this book out :)

I saw! And congrats! Now the fun begins. muahahaha!

Thanks and Woo-Hoo! I'm still watching the numbers, but the ducks are all looking pretty lined up!

noice. I love it when that happens.
