The Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

Open Call for Steampunk Artists:

I've been invited to curate a another Steampunk exhibition for a very large and prestigious museum- expected late 2012. We are planning a blockbuster show which will include all disciplines of Steampunk art and design.

If you wish you can email me up to 6 medium res jpegs of your original work: be it graphic, sculptural, jewelry, fashion, painting or medium of your choice and a brief personal note with your email info and location (country of origin).  I'll be making the selections for the exhibition in the coming months and will contact the artists that have been selected for the exhibition.

Thank you in advance and greatly looking forward to seeing your works.

Thank you.  I'll send in some photos... Most likely next week, as this weekend is amazingly packed with events.  I'm a jewelry maker and some of my pieces are odd, but I've been told that's what makes them interesting.

I hope to have it emailed this week.  I'm getting a photoshoot planned to showcase a few pieces and then it'll be emailed.

Several of the pieces I have submitted will be unavailable for several months. Should I do anything about this? I am guessing that if you like what I submitted, there will be some mechanism to substitute very similar pieces if the original has been loaned elsewhere.

By the way, congratulations on your collaboration on Lantern City. Your work is very deserving (and no, I'm not kissing up to you when I say that.)

Would you want any scholarly submissions? I am working, as you know, on a major research project for a presentation on Steampunk. I am planning on writing a paper to go along with the project. I have two events in which I am giving my presentation already.

I don't know if anyone has been following the round of deep budget cuts that are affecting all of the UK museums,

Well,  these cuts have finally reached the UK museum that was going to host our Steampunk exhibition in early 2013.

My sincere thanks to all of the talented artists on this forum who so generously mailed me their great work. I wanted to get this message out to you all as soon as I was informed ( this morning).

Hopefully there will be a Steampunk show sometime in the near future,  but as of now,  our exhibition, along with quite a few others that were planned by the museum, is off the calendar.

My Best Wishes to you all and I shall certainly keep you all apprised as to any museum show activity.  Art Donovan

I'm very sorry to hear that, I was so looking forward to the 2013 exhibition. But thanks for the notice Mr. Donovan

Hi, Carmine,

Thank you. I know!  It's quite a disappointment.  Apparently the museums are now scrambling to fill their required calendars with shows that will be the most cost- effective and guarantee a stable and predictable attendance.  It will most likely be a while before they will be flush enough to mount a new type of exhibition.  No museum wants to go out on a limb at this point  :(

This is sad news :( are there any US museums that might be interested in a Steampunk exhibit?
