The Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

Come visit my blog for the inaugural episode of Orphans of the Celestial Sea, a weekly serial (updates Mondays) chronicling the adventures of Tom Cain and his misfit crew as they try to unravel the mysteries surrounding their airship Hecate and the plague of psychosis-inducing Mist which is slowly destroying human civilization.

Looks good so far. Just perused it briefly cos I am off to bed. Always love something new to read, and my library sorely lacks steamy novels.

Thanks James, I'm really excited about it, but I want to get another few posts up before I start to really promote it. I know it's hard to really get into a story after just a few pages.

The first episode plays out in four installments, so after that you'll be hooked for sure.  :)

Tune in Monday for the next chapter.

Actually, after sitting down and reading it a bit later, i am hooked. Too much violence in the first chapter would have turned me off, but you kept it real, which can sometimes be tricky in a Fiction book :)

I want to know what happens next, which I consider to be the basis of a good book, the characters and the epidemic itself intrigues me.

Well done all round.

By the by, although i am not a writer as such, I do take part in a few roleplays here on the Empire, The Quad A being the main one, and the Alicia Grey being one I am watching. I find they get the creative juices gushing, are alot of fun, and help you to get instant feedback on how others see your input. You might like to check them out, and feel free to join in.

Regards,

James

Thanks, it's great to hear I have your attention. As you point out, feedback on most creative endeavors is hard to come by.

I'll have a look at the roleplays, but I'm not sure if I have enough time to participate. Takes me back to the good 'ol days, bunch of friends gathered in a darkened room with two large pizzas and a bag of dice. Ahh, I'm such a nerd.  :)

I fully understand the time issue, it does take a bit.

Never did actual roleplaying, but the role play here is how I get to live my steampunk, being in an area there are no others around.

Chapter 2 is up now.

Two more chapters up since I last updated here. I've been getting some great feedback, but I'd still love to hear from all of you. Opinions, comments and feedback are all welcome here, or on my blog.

Here's what readers are saying so far:

"ARG! You swine! I must know what happens next!
Great opening chapter. If you can sustain this pace, you have an absolute winner."

"Great writing, very much looking forward to more."

"This was fantastic. I absolutely love the ideas behind it, and the use of accented dialogue was superb. A lot of people can't pull that off but you did it well. Awesome how you combine aspects of steampunk, fantasy, and zombies."

"Wow! Again, exciting and loads of momentum. I love it."

"Loving it so far!!! I never read on the computer, I love sitting in bed with a paperback, but I can't stop reading this!"

New episode up! I'm very happy with the feedback so far, but I'd love to have your input!

There's a Facebook page for Orphans too, I hope to see you there.

New chapter is up.

Or start from the beginning.

Read it now, or read it a year from now when all your friends are telling you how cool it is, and you feel like the last one in on an awesome new thing... again.  Grin

Oh and leave feedback, here, or on the blog, anywhere I can see it. I love feedback (cept the kind you get during sound checks... not that kind).
