The Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

Ok its tirade time.

Airship Captains.

Dose everyone have to be an airship captain, come on people. Its like when little kids play cowboys and Indians but all the kids pretend to be the sheriff. The world of steampunk is filled with rolls of colorful adventure. Why for Gods sake why dose ninety percent of the people creating a persona have to be an airship captain!

Ok, now that half of you hate me I get the other half too.

Women airship captains.

Yes I know that history tells us their have been women captains/ pirates ect. You can find a list of them on wikipedia. You, can, find, a, list, of ,them! Meaning, that their was so few of them that, you can list them.

You would never know it around this place, were you cant hurl a dead cat without hitting a dozen airship captains in a skirt!

Yes, I know that this is fiction/fantasy but make it real people. Its also trendy to put women in roles that has them stronger then men. Despite the unreality of women action rolls the popularity of Angelina Jolie has nothing to do with her kicking butt. It has to do with her butt!

Please, please, people lets keep it real. Use some of that imagination and come up with personas that haven’t been done to death by hundreds of others before you. Ladies, you are women not men if you really have a new take on a women stepping into a males role I would love to see it. BUT we cant all be the sheriff can we. We need all the roles that women fill in the real world too. It makes the world of steampunk as full and colorful as the real world.

Now, as if I haven’t pissed off everyone in the Empire yet.

Can I tell you how tired I am about anything to do with vampires and werewolves,,,

While I agree with your point of "too many chiefs, not enough indians," I don't really see how other people's personas are directly effecting you enough to solicite this kind of reaction.  It's fine to get irritated by some people's lack of imagination.  Personally, I want to scream when I see a Jack Sparrow impersonator.  It's not okay however for you to dictate how other people express themselves.  Because this is entirely fictional, and a community that stretches around the world, why can't everyone who wants to be a Captain be a Captain?  If nothing else, this is the PERFECT setting in which to have an abundance of ANYTHING, because it has no effect or bearing on ANYTHING other than people's imaginations.  If some lonely kid from Bethesda found the Empire and a way to connect to people, who are you to tell him he can't be whatever he wants in this fictional world we've all created?  As for the women part, all I can say is wow.  You really did just tell every woman on this site to get back in the kitchen, didn't you?  Steampunk has always been a subculture that embraces gender-equality.  Therefore, women can very much be whatever the hell they want.  If you prefer a place where women fill more "traditional female roles" of the period, then may I recommend Civil War reenactment, or some other type of living history, as this place where women are equal to men is clearly not to your liking.

Jake this was beautiful.

Jake you are amazing :)

Thanks, I do what I can.

WHO. THE HELL. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

"Dose everyone have to be an airship captain..."  No one HAS to be anything Steampunk.  And if they want to be an airship Captain, they can be.  This isn't a Star Trek group where you come in as an ensign and have to work your way up.  There are actually less Captains than there are Airship CREW.  Also, it's spelled "Does".

"Women airship captains."  What about them?  VIVE LA DIFFERANCE! Do... Do members of the Female sex frighten you that you feel they must be oppressed even in a fictional universe?  You do realize that the Victorian Era was a time of sexual repression but also was secretly a bit of an awakening?

"Ladies, you are women not men if you really have a new take on a women stepping into a males role I would love to see it."  Very good so you can tell the difference!  You are seriously saying that women Steampunks need to play scullery maids, eye candy, and cooks aren't you?  I cannot tell whether you are a troll or just plain STUPID and boorish.

"BUT we cant all be the sheriff can we"  Yes, yes we can.  I can see why your screen name is "The Vile Clown".  You are a cad and an outcast.  Steampunk is about welcoming all, creating freely, and expressing our vision.  You however have just earned yourself a black mark.  From this day forward you are persona non grata and I hope all members reading this will do their duty to shun this unintelligible troglodyte.

Good Day "Sir"

Well said, Liam!

"Unless"

Very good, you see that I made an exception to welcoming and expression in your case!  You did not state an opinion you made a childish hate speech.

We don't have to agree or even ALLOW your opinion when you offended half the membership here by telling them to get back into the kitchen.  How long do you think someone would last here if they started a post about "I think all Steampunks of African origin should only play slaves"?

Maybe you should look up the following words in your dictionary (do you even have one or did you get rid of them at your local book burning?):

Troll

Fool

Idiot

Much as I disagree with some of what TVC has to say, you're not exactly on the high moral ground here either.

May I suggest you add these to your dictionary:

Pot

Kettle

Black.

Bravo, sir.

Well done, well done!
You've said what was needed here.
I have a coupon for a free Unclenched Sphincter...
Could someone pass it along to our friend TVC.

Hear hear!!!!!

To TVC: Welcome glorious pot-stirer. We call your type "troll" on other sites. You do know there is a "no foul language" and "keep the controversy under control" rule here right?
