The Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

So, i'v been going around a few shops trying to find steam punk type stuff and so far have only got a belt.

I bought a black corset today and am hoping to add things too it to make it look more steam punkish.

I'm thinking maybe add a few chains and buy a broach online to put on it, but i'm not very creating, so does anyone have any ideas?

I don't currently have a photo of it, but it is just plain black with flowers at the top (Which I am going to try and take off).

Try going to Hancocks or Joanns if you have them and actually look at the various buttons and hook and eye closures - they can simply be sewn side by side as is - or even worked to have chains hanging between then

this is also a button - i found it at hancocks - i plan on using it in place of a cameo on a facinator - bit it could take the place of a brooch on a corset as well - also check in scrap booking areas for metal "gears" - they could be hand stitched on with invisible thread as well

Thanks,

If you want, you could make stripes with metallic spray paint. I'm thinking specifically of a DIY video from Captain Robert of Abney Park:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itFOjEbmQL0

Granted this video is on pants, but the same technique should work on a corset too.

Hm, that might be a bit risky. If I do that I probably won't be able to undo it, so might just try sowing stripes on if anything. Might have to practice that on some old clothes and just mess around a bit :P

Yes, it would definitely be permanent. I've been thinking of adding stripes via paint to jazz up my window treatments.

you can always use snaps too - to add things to a corset even over the busk - look at my photos - the "Steampunk Wonder Woman" I created came from a plain red CS-411 from Orchard Corset - I stitched some basic gold trimming along the bottom - some fabric at the top for an off the shoulder look and the eagle on the front that covered the busk snapped off and on so I could remove it. - I have steps about this on this blog:

I was at Michaels last night - looking for some findings for a mask I am making and ran across these too - the gears and sprokets and even the clock faces could be added - I hope you post your finished product!!

That sounds pretty difficult, but i'll just have to see what I can buy and go from there :p
