I would say the writer of the article doesn't know enough about Steampunk (it was in it's infancy in 2002?  Not 1983 huh?) to proclaim a death certificate for an entire living, thriving hobby/fandom/lifestyle.

Mo Rocca did a feature story on CBS' Sunday Morning about  Steampunk last week with a visit to a Steampunk con in New Jersey.  I'm not sure that I'd like it if everybody was doing it, but it was cool to see it on national TV.

 

As for Justin Bieber, who cares?
