Brand new to this community.  Can anyone tell me where to find steampunk accessories in the Austin area without having to order online?  Needed for a Halloween costume so high quality not needed.  Not looking for expensive stuff.

I know this is odd, but I am short on cash and I am really looking for a nice greatcoat for my outfit. Is there anyone in the Austin area that would be willing to barter for your talents? send me a message

You will find a diverse and thriving SP community here in Austin! I hope you'll be able to make it out to some of the various meetings and social gatherings we have regularly. Also look Austin Steampunk Society up on Facebook. Generally there's more communication in the groups there.

Hello, good sirs and ladies!  I will soon move to Austin to attend St. Edward's University, and it is great to see that there is a steampunk community in the area!  Not much of that where I'm from...

Hi all-

I, too, am new to steampunk, but very excited to begin joining events. It will be a while before I can gather adequate attire, however. So many pieces to find! I'm currently working on a character backstory, and wondered if I could hear or read others' to find out what kinds of things to include. And I would probably love to discuss just about anything you'd like to on the matter...

Hey, I am new to steampunk. Been interested in it for a while, but finally getting an outfit together, but still trying to figure out what all to do with it.

Hello All,

Apologies in advance for my first post being a plug, but I want to invite you all to an event I'm throwing! I'm a student at UT and I'm getting my MFA in Scenic Design and tomorrow I will open my thesis to the world. As someone who has long been interested in Steampunk I managed to find a way to incorporate my passion in to my master thesis. I, together with several collaborators, have created a faux-Victorian (steampunk) travel journal and it tomorrow it will be read by my good friend Rudy Ramirez. It's a two-night event. We'll be reading the first half Thursday and Saturday, and the second half Friday and Sunday. In order to experience the whole thing you must come for two nights. It's from 7-9 and there will be tea and cookies.

The Blurb:

In a world where Britannia rules the waves and air, Ananda Ranga Kumar finds himself aboard an Airship headed to the shining city of New York. Although he yearns to unlock the secrets of this kingdom of science, he finds much more than the answers he was seeking.

In a world where so much is different, he finds there is still so much to change.
