Hello all. Just introducing myself. I haven't been a huge fan of "social networking" in the past but I'm finally catching up with the times. It gives me an excuse to step away from the anvil now and again.

Also not-steampunk but potentially interesting; SFMOMA currently has a Eadweard Muybridge exhibit and is showing some Muybridge-related screenings.

Pulp, not Steampunk, but still of potential interest to the members of this board;

City Lights Booksellers & Publishers in conjunction with the Cultural Services of the Consulate General of France & the Mechanics' Institute Library present

Fantomas by the Bay: A Centennial Celebration of Pierre Souvestre and Marcel Allain's Pulp Literary Sensation

WHO IS FANTOMAS?? Arch-villain? Mad genius? Master of disguises? Agent of chaos? In 1911 the pulp fiction writers Pierre Souvestre and Marcel Allain introduced a fictional character to the French reading public that was to capture their imagination and keep them yearning for more. The ultimate anti-hero, as enigmatic as he was treacherous, Fantomas executed the most appalling crimes with ruthlessness and precision. He spread terror and chaos amidst the lives of a bourgeois society that he took pleasure in ridiculing. Souvestre and Allain were in tune with the pulse of the public's fascination with shadow-side of modernity. Fantomas was to become one of the most popular serials in the history of French crime fiction anticipating the future arrival of Fritz Lang's Dr. Mabuse and the master villains of Ian Fleming's James Bond novels. On the occasion of the one hundred year anniversary of the creation of the FANTOMAS series, City Lights Booksellers and Publishers joins centenary celebrations in Paris to commemorate this extraordinary literary event.

FANTOMAS BY-THE-BAY shall feature: readings, lectures, film screenings, art exhibitions, and performance art, featuring Robin Walz, Dominique Kalifa, Daniel Handler, Mel Gordon, Marc Ellis, Howard Rodman, Jonathan P. Eburne, Janaki Ranpura, Jill Tracy, Jim Nisbet, Kim Gill, The Slow Poisoner, and many more.

Hello Folks,

After three and a half years of work the Crew of the Airship Victoria is proud to announce that we received a grant from the Board of Burning Man for 2011 for the AV X.3 prototype. We will have an open house this Sunday to show you our progress and call for volunteers.

I had a superb time at Nova Albion. Had a grand time dancing and exploring the wonderful wares. My dear friend Malyne brought her father. She's his primary care giver. He's 93, in a wheel chair and a bit confused, but he loves to be in the thick of things. She bought him a pith helmet and goggles. He looked quite dashing. She said after taking him home he refused to take the helmet off. giggles A former college professor, the doctor deserves the Oldest Steam Punk participant award.

Nova Albion was so fun! Met a lot of great people at my first steampunk convention - had the BEST time dancing and enjoying the entertainment (Lee Presson is a God!)

Anyone have any opinions about the convention? Also, i'm planning to move out ot the Chicago area later this year - does anyone have any tips on steampunk societies out yonder?

It was great meeting so many bay area steampunks at Nova Albion.  Espana and I talked about coordinating our google calendars.  Here is my recently updated Northern California Steampunk Calendar:  NORCalendar

Please let me know what upcoming events of interest to Steampunks need to be added to it.

Euphrenia,

I can give you a ride to Nova Albion from San Francisco.

Is there anyone driving to Nova Albion from (or through) San Francisco on Saturday morning who has room for an additional body (one that will help with the gasoline, of course)? I'd be deeply grateful for a ride if so.

Thank you!
