I can give you a ride to Nova Albion from San Francisco.
Comment by Euphrenia McGee on March 24, 2011 at 5:43pm Is there anyone driving to Nova Albion from (or through) San Francisco on Saturday morning who has room for an additional body (one that will help with the gasoline, of course)? I'd be deeply grateful for a ride if so.
Thank you!
Comment by España Sheriff on March 24, 2011 at 3:29pm Yeah, it has also been built up over several years which helps. I have several hundred pinboard (Delicious, originally) bookmarks I check.
I will definitely pop by on Saturday, thanks :)
Comment by España Sheriff on March 24, 2011 at 2:26pm Oh, can you share the link to you Google Calendar so I can add it?
The SF/SF calendar is of course more general, but all steampunk events are of course included. It can be found either at the end of each issue of the zine itself (efanzines.com/SFSF), on twitter @sfsfcalendar or at the link below;
This lack of a central bulletin board has been an ongoing problem. Several people have attempted to address it by creating websites, but after an initial flurry they end up inactive because the groups who should be utilizing them to get the word out about their events don't support them, and it takes a HUGE amount of time for one person to search out all of the events on a couple of dozen individual group or little-used public sites and announce them on a central site.
I created a Northern California Google Calendar last year, but it is now in neglect and not at all up to date. I'm hoping to find time to update it in the next week or two, and will distribute links to it once it has current content. If something is posted on one group's google calendar - it is really easy to import it into another calendar - so I encourage steamy groups to use Google Calendars. It is also possible to allow multiple managers for a single calendar which could spread the work of maintenance over more people.
Please note that the Steam Federation (Bay Area Steampunk Association) on Facebook gets a fair number of announcements on their wall, as does the Sacramento Steampunk Society (also on Facebook).
Note that the Nova Albion Convention is in Santa Clara this weekend, Never Was Haul is having a special fundraising event in conjunction with that on Saturday night, and Abney Park will be playing in the SF area the weekend after.
Comment by España Sheriff on March 24, 2011 at 11:45am Well, I myself am just posting events relevant to the group that I've added to the @sfsfcalendar but I would love to see a localized calendar/events group.
The layout of the group pages doesn't seem the best place for it, but the events page itself doesn't have geographical sorting, maybe we can request tags or something?
Comment by España Sheriff on March 23, 2011 at 3:36pm Tonight SF in SF is having a steampunk film double feature; The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc Sec and Steamboy
