Do any of you smiths have any experience with building a micro forge?
I am thinking about a small forge fueled by propane and oxy through check valves and valves pushing a larger rosebud. Probably would build the casement of sheet metal with a ceramic blanket liner. This to be used for barstock smaller than 1/2" square..most likely 1/8" X 1/4" stock. My larger forge makes toast out of small stock tooooo rapidly.
Thanks, Phineus T.F.
Mornin all you fine people. Pleased to find you. I am a Master Blacksmith most of my life and have projects a plenty. Presently, for the past decade or so, I combine metals and large gemstones. One of a few that do this at this level. Just completed a couple of 1 to 1.2 ton pieces for a show in Tucson. Presently in process on a 3k square foot shop and gypsy wagon to live in. The buildings and site are going Steampunk. I have been told I am steampunk since ~40 years ago. Again glad to find you.

Take a listen I think you'll enjoy it.
Comment by Captain Devlin MacBain on January 20, 2012 at 7:17am Ahhhh Welshman, This Sunday there is one final birthday soiree to be held.
But the following Sundays might be a possibility.
Comment by The Welshman on January 19, 2012 at 2:03pm True on that. It burns threw a lot of coal, but in our small uninsulated shop ( think 1 car garage) that little forge can raise the temps by almost 50 degrees. Sucks having to walk back to the house in the cold however.
Forge on Sunday Capt?
Comment by Lord Nicodemus - Kevin Costello on January 19, 2012 at 8:28am I try to forge all year round but our shop is a working historical shop and is about an hour and a half from home for me. So i get up maybe a weekend a month if im lucky. Ive found that most things i can get enough heat for in the winter, but Damascus or other heavy forge welded items its too hard to fight the cold.
Comment by Captain Devlin MacBain on January 19, 2012 at 8:26am How many of you forge year round??? We've been finding that the heat from the coal provides more than enough warmth for personal comfort ( although it takes significantly longer to warm up the anvils). Being from Wisconsin There is quite a long period of frigid temperatures.
Comment by Lord Nicodemus - Kevin Costello on January 19, 2012 at 7:46am Thank you! I don't get to go to the shop nearly as much as i would like, but im hoping to rectify that this year.
Lord Nicodemus - What a beautiful blade!!! Very nice work!
