Here are a couple of books by fellow writers of color that contain elements of Steampunk:

I've had very good feedback on my story, 'The Delivery.' Oddly enough it has not come from this site. Still, we persevere. I'm working on another story based on Freedonia, one which introduces one of my main characters for my upcoming steampunk novel, Unrequited. I would love to see more activity within this group. If any of you are working on writing projects I would love to read them. If I can offer any help or suggests please feel free to ask.

I'm a novelist. I hope to work on scripts in the future, but now it's just prose between the covers.

I'm currently working on a steampunk/alternate history story titled, "The Delivery." It takes place in a North America containing five countries: The United States of America (The northeast and mid west), Freedonia (the deep south, a social utopia with Frederick Douglass as president), New Haiti (The lands of the Louisiana Purchase and the island of Haiti), The Nations (a confederation of Native American Tribes) and New Spain (the West and Southwest). I'll post when it's complete.

I would suggest reading the book Black Victorians, Black Victoriana, editor Gretchen Lolbrook Gerzina.  I discovered it while researching a steampunk film project with an Black American protagonist and figuring if I could make it work.  What I discovered is that as usual minorities are lead to believe that we are outsiders when in fact we had an invitation to the party all along!  There were in fact many well known people of color that would have been known to any Victorian.  Many Africans worked on ships and were common in seaports like Liverpool.  Oddly enough if ones looks at the majority of films set in the Victorian and Edwardian eras Blacks are totally obliterated. It's no wonder most white steampunks particularly here in America think that they have an exclusive thing,.

Well, coming from a complicated and multiracial history, would you think it slightly difficult to include such history into our character backgrounds?
