The Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

Well being new to the area I was wondering what kind of things go on here locally.  I went to an Abney Park concert last Friday in San Francisco, was excellent but I wish there were places to go dancing a bit closer.

It's going to be a challenge to get events together in SLO proper. Unfortunately we have a huge population of Cal Poly students whose sole reason for living is to crash any and every event, drink themselves half to death, start fights and then start vandalizing the venue.

If we did something at a private venue (not a bar) and sold tickets ahead of time (not at the door) and mandated Steampunk attire, NO EXCEPTIONS, I think we would be ok.

The Grange Hall in SLO is an excellent venue, so is the Odd Fellows Hall, the Trinity Hall and possibly the Vet's Hall if we could get enough people to attend. The Graduate is excellent for music and dancing, but pricey and we could not get it for a prime night like Thurs, Fri, Sat or Sun.

North County is too hot and South County is too dangerous (gangs) so I think SLO is the most centrally located. We would travel to attend something in Morro Bay, Los Osos or Santa Barbara as well.

Any other thoughts?
