Well this year started  off with a rush of steam. One of my goals was to get representation in a gallery in the Jewelry District in Los Angeles, Ca. Done and Done. Christmas eve started with WW5 with a sister making threats and demands, the evening vastly improved from that point forward. It was all over her take-over of one of my studios..oh well, charges have been filed and we'll see where that goes. Durn Sisti-Uglers.

On a positive note stones are being processed for the upcoming show in Tucson, Arizona. That being the International Gem and Mineral Show. I have gone to this show for over 25 years and it is a highlight way to begin the new year. This is both a buying and selling trip selling finihsed pieces and picking up stones for future works.

Several commissions already taken for works in bronze, looks like a good year beginning to me. New ventures and building in process. Oh, and the usual donations to the disabled Vets in my way of paying it forward.

After the show is a proposal presentation to an new winery out my way for lots of steampunk sculpture and what I call 'ArtScaping' of the grounds and interior of the winery building. Should be a hoot as usual with such projects. Lots of SteamPunk inspired and harmonius 'stuff'.

Best Wishes,

Phineus T.

Happy New Year!

I worked out the profoundness of the celebration for myself tonight, because in reality, it is just another night and day. But in actuality, it is significant, thus: One ends the old games (win or lose) and ends off on the pain and disappointment, and begins anew with great agreement from others that this should occur.

So, I say CHEERS! to new beginnings and a fresh start; a chance to do-over, and to make things better.

Happy New Year, all!

Happy New Year!

Unless you are busy time traveling, of course - in which case there seems to be little point in celebrating such things, really.

Excellent points all, Sgt!
While I fully agree with the Stolen Valor Act, I do not believe that most Steampunkers are wearing any bages or commendations for any other than decorative uses. I myself, though raised military, did not serve, as a sole surviving officers son the draft actually turned me away. Nonethe less being raised military left it's marks...all good ones...such as discipline, respect for authority and elders, and a penchant for honesty, integrity and a hell bent desire for honesty in all things.

That said, those who wear any badges or commendations for any other than decorative purposes are ...less than respectful....with an exception. My uncle was a squadron commander for the P51-D's in the European theater WWII. I wear his wings on my hat as a sign of respect for his services. On the other side I wear the pilots' wings for the pilot of the Coral Princess,B-17. I make no representation that these are mine by earning them, simply as a show of respect for my elders and ones I cherish deeply. I may be mistaken but that is my feelings on that. The other medals of my fathers I have a place of respect for beside the flag the Col. had draped over his coffin. All a sign of respect.

As one who has deep feelings about serving our country my umbrage is with leaders that seem to always form a donut like profile when it comes to thinking, and a government that spends way to much time being politically correct rather than applying result producing actions. My way of serving currently for the past many years is to assist the Disabled Vets as best I am able.

I believe most steampunkers fall into the decorative uses category. Good post though! Thanks Sgt.

Wow, has it been a while.

Greetings fellow steamies. I've finally decided to post a blog concerning a growing issue between re-enactors/larpers/cosplayers versus military/law enforcement personnel. It is an issue that has been brought up a number of times by many of my fellow steampunks concerning the wearing of rank, medals, badges, ribbons and uniforms. Stolen Valor... While I myself have served my country with honor, I decided to forego the often misunderstood though perhaps moral high road of service member tirades and NOT wear any medals or patches that could be misconstrued as actual service issue. Not so with many steampunk personas, but that is their concern. I personally COULD NOT care what anyone brings to the party. It's just a hobby.

Now to set the record straight for the people who might take umbrage at seeing military type rank, medals, badges, ribbons and uniforms, here is the actual wiki link concerning the Stolen Valor Act of 2013.

To sum it all up in one, definitive statement, the Act makes criminal the wearing of COMBAT related awards/medals for the EXPRESS intent to fraudulently obtain money, property, or other tangible benefit.

This means that any other NON-COMBAT related rank, medals, badges, ribbons and uniforms, unaltered or not, are perfectly legal if not altogether ethical. Should you decide in your zeal for this fine science fiction genre to build a persona using even current military type rank, medals, badges, ribbons and uniforms, then I would advise you become familiar with the Act in the above link for this new generation of soldiers/sailors do seem to be much thinner-skinned than those who've come before. (Yeah, that was me taking a dig at the 'Red-Card' generation. They know who they are)
