In other news...there has been some brou-ha-ha about the Steampunks ejected from a Mall....I have submitted a letter to the Mall on their Facebook page, and signed a petition to have them address the situation.

There has been some reaction, mostly negative, to the Steampunks that were ejected from the WESTFIELD PLAZA CAMINO REAL Mall, and this is the open letter I posted to their Facebook Page:

"To Whom It May Concern,

I have been dismayed to see the reactions to the eviction of a large group of Steampunks from your Mall.
To say that this has gained some negative Press is to make an understatement.

Just yesterday we revisited a consignment store attached to a mall in Hanover MA....they had been closed on a previous trip of discovery, found quite by accident.
This time they were open....
We were greeted QUITE cheerily by the Lady Proprietress, having seen us (SWMBO in her cloche hat, scarf and jacket, myself in tweeds and flat cap). The Lady Owner was so HAPPY to see a few people dressed with some style!
We were more than pleased at her reaction, and I must say we were almost saying "TAKE OUR MONEY!" (we did spend a bit!), I purchased two bow ties and two pair of tabbed suspenders (one of them Brooks Brothers). Between the two of us we spent well over $100.
IN JUST THIS ONE SPOT.
When I have more dosh to hand, I WILL revisit for more ties, a leather case, and more goodies.

WHY oh WHY cannot the rest of the world act in such a civilized and profitable manner?

We chatted a bit with her, and have determined to invite her and other merchants, both new and used retail, to our 7th Annual New England Steampunk Picnic, to be hosted at Capron Park & Zoo in Attleboro Massachusetts September, final date to be announced.

That your Mall could have been a site for future pleasant and PROFITABLE interactions with fellow Steampunks...tsk tsk....too bad for your timid and shallow responses to this whole event.

Yours,
Ryan S. Grimm,
Maker, Steampunk, Historical Reenactor, Amateur Historian, Timber Framer and all-around Gadabout

P.S.
I fully expect this to be erased promptly from your Facebook page, so I am copying and pasting it to every Steampunk site I am attached to, of which there are many."

I strongly urge the many Steampunks I am acquainted with to sign a petition to properly redress the rather crude and offensive behaviour of the Mall and their Staff, and to see if this can be dealt with in a realistic manner, without plastic apologies meaning nothing.
THE PETITION:

Wonderful to hear your news!!

From my own view, the cons and events must handle their miscreants themselves.

As for online, The COG here, will always be the refuge and safe house for artists and creators.

Oh, our work has yet to be called 'finished'....there is the problem of 'creepers' etc. at cons and other events, and spreading the word and ways to deal with it.

If I get time (which lately has been short and fleeting) I will try to list such miscreants, and how we can keep track of the problem.
After all, I am now 'gainfully employed'.

Indeed, it has!

The COG seems to have really done a swell job of smoothing out the friction of the genre. Nary a complaint in eons!

This greatly pleases me.

I suppose we should just say "Carry on!" :-)

Welcome Raven....the future is all behind us!

Greetings All! I've been lost in the underworld for about an eon... It seems at least... On resurfacing, I find this lovely group waiting!  I'm now (and again) calling Texas home... and looking forward to a steamy zombie hunting autumn!

Cheerio!

I stumbled unto this website by accident. Not what I was looking for at the time, but it looks like a nice resource about steamships and steamship travel. It has all kinds of things, like brochures, images of tickets, menus served aboard, captain and passenger lists... I thought some of you might find it interesting, maybe even for researching a persona or event.

I have found a MOST useful site that directs you to tea rooms and tea suppliers in the USA:
http://greattearoomsofamerica.com/default.asp

We were directed to it by Sarah and Brad, the owners of FANCY THAT, a tea room in Brockton MA.  Lovely people, nice to chat with.
