Forgive me all, for my prattling, on occasion my thoughts take their own flight & I find myself being drawn along a "Stream Of Consciousness"--

Having discovered only a few years ago, proof in my genealogy that confirmed what the family has always suspected & spoke of as family tradition...  A great-grandmother was indeed of Oyate (Native American) blood--

While this explained why I have never been able to grow facial hair, this news also swelled my interest since childhood in the Oyate culture.  I am one who, be nature, abhors cliches in literature, theatre & plot.  But I cannot help but wonder what aspect of Oyate culture & persona would be best displayed with a dash of SteamPunk..

We are all familiar whth the characters we embrace, the ones that best reflect our soul...  the scientist, the pilot, the mad inventor, the romantic...

So I turn to you, good gentles...  If it would not be too disruptive, I would like to hear any and all thoughts might be floating about in this distinctive aether we share--

Well met Baron & Thank you Mr.M--

I was involved earlier in a discussion on the Off-Topic board, on the subject of

Political-Correctness & its efforts to remove the passion from the ethos of steampunk composition--  I find it a topic that we should not forget...  The implications, should such a dire philosophy be successful, would be cataclismic

You've actually defined it.

ART itself is the subject of communication; a superlative, high quality communication.

Lyrics aid the songs communication.

Spoken word stands alone as its own aesthetic communication.

And the purpose of art is to evoke emotional response in the audience.

So, whatever form of art you wield, be it dagger or machete or broadsword or rapier, the fundamental basis of whether it is good or not is how much of the intended effect does it create?

When one is masterful, one can create the intended effect at will, just as a great swordsman does.

Then let us keep confident that this slumbering beast is never roused to anger--  And should it be so enraged, let us pray for those who have offended--

But on a lighter note, Mr.Magnificent & being an expressive one in a field far different from mine, how do you stand on issues of song lyrics spoken as prose??  They are two distinctive crafts & I rarely find that one can serve as the other--  The lyrics of so many songs I adore are, when spoken plainly, an abysmal assault upon the sensibilities--  The converse also holds valid most of the time... My writing is purple & lyrical, alsmot akin to music I am told by some...  But I would never consider any of my work as fodder for music.  I am not, by any measure, a musician...

On the subject in its entirety, what say you??  And precisely why??

An echo here of what the Professor said; welcome!

We're tolerant here of all but intolerance and those deficient in their sense of humour.

This area was founded long ago by the late legend named Thomas "Tommy" Declan Keane.

Its ideals are still upheld, and it is a sanctuary when needed, and a ferocious beast when called to action. But in recent times, it is mostly a quiet peaceful place.

Again, welcome!

Welcome to the Cog Cat; Blacksmith, and to the Empire!

Comment by Cat: Blacksmith Mstr. Adept on May 10, 2014 at 7:35pm

Having just joined the Cog, I can only assume that some great confluence of egos has caused the departure of one well regarded.  Of this news, I am saddened.

But The Cog appears to have been founded on sound principals-- As one who who expresses himself as a Steampunk/Victorian writer more than a item crafter, I find myself in great agreement with such acceptance.  I am always suspicious of those who are tolerant of anything, save for a different opinion...

So I join in chorus with Prof. Bats...  The Cog is dead, Long live the Cog !!
