Upon one of my excursions to my favorite used book store, I came upon a tome that is attributed to the Golden Dawn. The last published date is 1891, so I will be authenticating it further. Nonetheless, it should be an interesting read.

I have been a dedicated paranormal investigator for several years. I am fortunate that there is a way to merge my passions of steampunk and "ghosthunting". My group is called the Society for Paranormal Awareness (S.P.A.), and our web site is www.societyforparanormalawareness.com. While investigating purported claims of paranormal activity is our prime focus, we also provide educational and research services. We gladly welcome questions from interested parties.

I took my boy, young Henry Congo, as he is known here to an actual haunted house indenver this weekend. He lieks to wear his adventure time headgear when exploring the unknown. He got into it and was ready to search out any spectral thing we could find. To my surprise after hearing some strange noises on the top floor, he did not panic nor turn tail but instead headed up the stairs in his stealth mode to seek out the point of disturbance.

The Seventh meeting of the Owen Society

Date:  Sunday, August 26th, from noon until 3pm.

Location:  Owen and Engine   Map

Book of faces page

Lady Violet Carruthers' (Rebecca Pollock) lecture will explore the following concepts:

The Tree of Life is the primary symbol of Kabbalah and provides a blueprint for the process of personal growth and manifestation. The Tarot is a card system dating back to the ancient Egyptians that was used as a form of Divination in the early Victorian era. In this lecture we will explore the basic principles of the ten Sephiroth of the Tree and discover how they breathe deeper meaning into the Major Arcana, Minor Ar
cana and Court cards of the Tarot. See how the Tree can provide a systematic process for attaining knowledge about our current position in the Universe and the energies that are influencing us. Apply this knowledge to interpretations of the Tarot for greater insight into issues you face in your every day life. There are several different card layouts or spreads that are used depending on the intent of the querent. Lady Violet will unveil a unique Steampunk Tarot spread that will help shed light on what may be clogging the cogs of personality and higher self. This will give you a solid foundation in the Tree of Life and practical applications of the Tarot.

Due to the space constraints at Owen and Engine, our Society may either have a maximum of 15 people for the parlor room or we may use the entire upstairs, but must purchase $1000 in food and drink as a group (this means a minimum of 40 attendees buying a full brunch and drink, around $25 before tip and tax). So, in order to plan for the event, we ask that you RSVP by emailing the professor at kgreen5@gmail.com to confirm that you will be attending the lecture.

All RSVPs will be served on a first come, first serve basis. Should we reach 40 confirmed attendees, everyone will be welcome (and welcome to bring guests too). Otherwise, your name will go on our waiting list for one of 15 coveted slots in the parlor room and you'll be notified the week of the event!

As always, neo-Victorian and Steampunk dress is strongly encouraged at all meetings of the Owen Society.

Hey guys,

I know some of you know me as an old friend, some as family, and some as a new acquaintance, and others perhaps, not at all. I'm sending this with the hopes of appealing to you on an individual level. I need your help, and I need it badly. They say opportunity knocks once, and well, that tap has come to my door in the form of a Battle of the Bands. My group, an indie steampunk group called The Dustin Kahlil Band, has made it into the final running and we need votes to make it through. Voting is free and there are no other obligations involved...just a couple of mouse clicks is all it takes and you could very well help push us up to where we need to be to win this thing and go to London.

Here is the link to vote: http://www.facebook.com/hardrockcafebiloxi/app_205164529573076
Just scroll down till you see Dustin Kahlil Band and click "Vote".

If you have already voted, then please (and I can't ask this enough) spread the word to people we may not know, networking this out is going to be key to us getting there. For me, this is no longer about my band winning, it is an underdog struggle to achieve, to represent all the other underdogs out there, to help my home which I love be represented on a global stage, and a chance, just maybe, to finally wrap my fingers around a dream that has been in my heart since I was twelve years old.

I thank you in advance, with all earnestness and sincerity. We cannot do this without friends and family backing us up, we can't do this without you.

Yours,
Professor Jason Milliken

The Fourth meeting of the Owen Society

Date:  Sunday, April 29th from noon until 3pm.

Location:  Owen and Engine   Map

Book of faces event page

Details:

Join us for the fourth meeting of the Owen Society where Tarot and Astrology luminary Janet Berres will present her paper entitled "The Influence of Women on all matters Spiritual and Esoteric during the Victorian Era."

How did the women of the Victorian times influence metaphysics and spirituality in everyday life? Out of this time period came the Fox sisters, who were credited with creating the Spiritualist movement, Madame Blavatsky and Mary Baker Eddy, who both started new religions, and Moina Mathers and Florence Farr, who, at different times, both headed up the Golden Dawn, the premiere occult society of that era.

Then there were Dion Fortune and Annie Besant, Dion who founded the Society of the Inner Light and Annie, a political activist, who created Mixed Masonry, Le Droit Humain, the first co-freemasonry lodge that admitted women.

Pamela Colman Smith, and Lady Freida Harris were the artists and influences behind the Rider Waite Tarot and the Thoth Tarot, while Elsie Wheeler was a clairvoyant who helped Marc Edmund Jones create the Sabian symbols, used in astrology. Ida Craddock was a Victorian "sexual mystic" and women's rights advocate.

Unlike today, in "modern" 21st century America where a war on women is occurring, back at the turn of the last century, women were speaking out and stepping up to the plate--bringing their unique gifts to the world-- and the world was (mostly) approving of it!

Due to the space constraints at Owen and Engine, our Society may either have a maximum of 15 people for the parlor room, or we may use the entire upstairs, but must purchase $1000 in food and drink as a group (this means a minimum of 40 attendees buying a full brunch and drink, around $25 before tip and tax).
