Whooot, more steampunkers in KC. I have my Airship crew (The Bedlam) but new of no others wanting to organize a large event. Let do this!

I would love to be in the loop for planning a steampunk con in the KC area. I have over 30 years experience running sf cons (I work on ConQuesT and have been chair of Contraception since its inception). I've also worked on 3 worldcons. I've got a great relationship with the Contra hotel if you are serious about starting this event.

Hey all. I'm thrilled to see a steampunk group in the KC area. I'm just getting started in the genre, and am looking forward to learning a lot more about it.

My experience with steam cons is that people will dress up. There have been others were dress was not encouraged, but when the focus is narrowed to Steam, people tend to know what to do.

As to details and music acts, that is part of the Exploratory Commission's job to establish the feasibility of such things. Abney would be difficult to book the first year because of the requirements within their contract - such as having to fly them out, etc. Questions like this also fit under the structure of the organization - LLC. vs. 501(C)3...

Who are you thinking for entertainment? Abney Park? Dr. Steel? Other?

A good name musical act will draw in many people.

Will you make this an immersion con to encourage cosplay?

While I would agree that people newer to the task of planning massive events should take large amounts of time, my team I've assembled thus far has over 25 contiguous years of planning events for 200-600 people; and all told, more than 100 years combined.

And right now we are still in the Feasibility Study phase... ;)

"No S***, There We Were..." Modar and I had a TWO DAYS to pull off an event for 400 people - because of failure on other people's part - and we did it rather successfully.

I'm interested, but not if it's going to be a half-assed effort like so many other cons in Kansas City. You need at least 18mos to plan one right IMHO.

Anyone interested in joining a Facebook discussion on the feasibility of starting a SteamPunk Con here in KC? Msg me for an invite to the Exploratory Commission.

I personally vouch for SteamCon in Seattle, there were over 1400 guests last year with nearly every one of them in costume. I'll be a panelist there this year as well.
