How do you do it?I was once taught that scissors work well. This doesn't work well for me and the thicknesses of my projects. Now, I use dollar-store box knives - the kind that you break off when the…Continue

Recently completed boot knife and scabbard.
Leather over wood scabbard. Needs some TLC. Made this in 2006.
Part of my plague doctor mask current in production.
Good Morning all, I'm new to this Exposition, and found you by the fortuitous accident of actually looking things up!I have been doing leather work off-and-on for some 30 years, only progressing to what I would call a competent stage within the last two.I tried my hand at carving last year, having come into possession of two boxes of stamping tools fro a yard sale for $10, a ridiculous price for them. The latest project is a Sam Browne belt, to be adapted for sword mount, pistol holster and pouches. I obtained the parts and materials by working a trade with Paul Marcure, owner of Eeldrytch Armoree, a leather worker in northern MA. I have been acquainted with Mr. Marcure for some 20+ years.Anyway, also on the list is a badly dried out Gladstone-type bag, which I will recover the formerly leather-wrapped grips....the leather of the bag itself is going slightly dusty.Has anyone advice on treatment and rescue?I also go under the name of Sgt. Mustache, Toy Soldier.SALUTE!
You can get it on Amazon, among other places, for about $15. Just do a search for "pocket plasma disk".
BTW - I got lots of favorable comments on the pouch when I wore it at SPWF. Especially when I left the display on and walked around in dimly lit areas.
Where do you get the electronic parts
My new plasma pouch, just in time for the Steampunk World's Fair!
Some examples of my work. A Courier Bag It will hold a legal pad and has a pocket for a 10" Tablet. This one has a formed front flap, I also make them with natural flap. From here you can add your own decorations. Contact me with questions.
This is my most recent Steampunk project. My lady asked me to make a leather harness for her. I think it turned out pretty well and she loves it.
The crocodile pattern goes with her Jungle Explorer outfit.
I have some vintage rabbit skins that have gotten brittle with age. Not sure anything will work but I got some Dr. Jackson's Hide Rejuvenator from Tandy. I haven't tried it yet (been too busy with book orders) but it says that it cleans, softens and conditions new and "abused" leather so I'm hoping it works at least a little. Maybe someone else knows a tried and true method, though, which I would also love to hear.
