I will monitor this group, but I cringe everytime I see "punky steamers" in print. Please poll your membership regarding this term while it is still early. Why the attempted renaming of an established and respected genre? Was the name "Cutesy Kitten Club" already taken? ;-)
Permalink Reply by Gustaf Danielsson on March 6, 2012 at 12:19pm Well, the group was named over a year ago before I joined, but I don't really have an issue with it. I think it was just meant as a play on words for the club name, rather than any attempt at renaming "steampunk".
Out of curiosity, what would you suggest for a name?
The name should reflect some formality and class, like The Carolina Society of Retronauts or The North Carolina Guild of Faux Historians, or borrowing from Emilie Autumn, The Wayward Victorian Assembly of North Carolina. Other possibilities include reference to time travelers, chrononauts, adventurers, etc.. Doesn't that sound more like something of which one would take pride in participation?
Formality was a basic tenet of Victorian life. The club name should reflect that in my humble opinion.
If only you weren't such a drive away from me...*le sigh*
To what airship are you referring? Is there a craft associated with the "punky steamers"? <shivers, makes face>

Please purchase tickets directly on http://www.nhvry.org/ for the 12:15pm ride as soon as possible. I don't know if there will be additional tickets available on-site.
