The Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

Do you ever go out of your way to make a Queer statement in your Steam fashion?

Gentlemen, do you sport lush colors and femininely androgynous attire to blur the line of masculinity?

Ladies, well you have full reign on trousers and male garb, but do you make a Queer statement in some fashion?

What do you do or want to do to proclaim yourself for all to see?

I know a kilt is not feminine, however, i do feel that i am doing a little bit of gender bending in my brown industrial style kilt. My kilt is the signature piece of my steampunk clothing. At the pridefests i attend in my kilt the greatest response comes from the lesbian ladies who seem to love seeing a gentleman in a kilt. Ladies at the last pridefest had my partner, also in a kilt, and mepose and kiss for their cameras.

I know I'm quite late to this discussion but can I just say that there's something about a lady in trousers, boots and a waistcoat that makes me go "Mmmmm!"  ;)

I tend toward more masculine styles myself, but I do like wearing fancy dresses on occasion.  The problem for me is how I'm built.  I'm tall and unfortunately built more like a man...but with boobs.  It's a challenge, especially when I'm carrying several extra pounds - as I am at the moment.  For some reason, in my mind I'm svelte and then I put on clothes and look in the mirror and go OH MY GOD!!  It's been tough to come up with an appropriate costume because I have all these ideas that have yet to pan out.  And that was random. I'll go away now. *grin*

Well I'm more like drag king/butch lesbian myself in daily life, but I do not identify as trans. However, my Steampunk persona is male and as it's obvious I'm a woman I guess that makes my Sir Fitzy trans? And I also portray Sir Fitzy as a bisexual man and he is rather fashionable and flamboyant. I do believe that I am definitely blurring gender lines in there.

Blurring gender lines is good!  :)  I love a woman playing a bisexual man.  Such fun there is to be had!

I have a deep and unending love for a uniform. I adore a uniform. The cut, the look. Wether it be a destoryed civil war rebel gray or a WW1 doughboy, I will choose a uniform over anything else if I can.

What is it about uniforms?   I have noticed this for a while....even couriers, my goodness they are ....something!

And yes ....hurra for blurring gender boundaries!

I like historical uniforms but I am unphased by most modern ones...except perhaps naval officers. Yumm. I guess it's because I wear a uniform to work every day myself.

I don't think current uniforms are quite as dashing or romantic as historic ones but they still have that certain something, especially dress uniforms. I think that the US Marine dress uniform is my fovorite uniform of the colonies, and the dress uniform Prince Will wore at his wedding was very dreamy. Uniforms are just sexy! I think the sexiest thing is a very femme female in a male dress uniform! (I think women look even hotter in the men's uniform than they do in the female cut. But that might just be me.)

I agree on all measures. Having had to wear a set of BDUs and then ACUs for the last 6 years, I can say for certain that the historical ones cut a far more dashing figure. And yes, I didn't want Kate's dress...I wanted Will's Uniform...or his grandfather's. They both looked quite regal (no pun intended).

And I have indeed broken down and helped further my fall into the realm of the uniformed woman, as I have recently come into possession of a WW1 doughboy uniform. I am in the process of steaming it now.

No, I completely agree Sir Fitzy.... there is definitely something about a gal in a dress uniform.  Hmmm.
