The Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

Plot lines was becoming a bit full of random about the story chat, so I thought another discussion line where we can talk about the story itself, questions comments, concerns etc., leaving Plot lines for actual plot development hints and ideas.  And if you want to give comments about your own real lives, which are always great to hear, then do that in Out of Character Chat! I am so anal.......

Ms Copperpotts is looking for allies and there are few ways she could work with several members ..

So, I have the basic feel of the ships, but what's the physical description of them? Like... are there specific reference pictures anyone has in mind?

Yes I was also wondering about the connecting rigging...for future reference.

Hmm, so where should the battle go do you think? We do need some sort of familiar end point, so we can all work towards it. If you want to keep a few surprises up your sleeve to shock and surprise us all, all good, but let us nut out a general plan.

I have been thinking about this alot, I am finding it hard to focus on other things when i get a few moments to myself  :}

Barty boy will not want to destroy the whole fleet, as he wants its prisoners intact. he seems to mostly want the Abomination, but William is securely locked in the Apparition as well. I see him as a man that will take it all if he can, so here was an idea that floated up. There is a huge firefight in the sky, with ships and guns pounding away at each other, and a few of technological marvels swaying the fight one way or another. However Bartholemew does close in on his goal. Using a cutting weapon of some sort, i do not know what he has on board, he slices through the one of the ships, i will let you guys decide which one, sending it plummeting towards the ocean and its doom! As the fleet begins to tilt out of control he then uses some forethoughtof method of attaching his own ship to the sliced through walkway, ,welding itself permanently to the fleet as a whole. We cannot now destroy the ship itself, as it is needed to keep the fleet airborn, and is firmly attached to the central ship itself, which holds all our supplies and the Alicia Grey if she is still docked. The fight then becomes hand to hand combat as troops flow from the belly of his ship and attack the fleet.

Later on we would restore the destroyed ship in all her glory, presuming we win of course.

Just an idea, we do not need to run with it....

Also, how close should he come to his goal? Do we kill him? What is William's role in all this?

Good. But, the only ship we could cut away really would be the Atrocity ... Not so good for Izzy though, get command and then her ship is lost. After the initial gunnery shots (mostly by us) maybe Batholomew's ship [there is only one right?] launches harpoons to anchor to the fleet?? So we're damaged but still aloft. Then the hand to hand stuff starts.

As for the battle ... I thought we could set an ambush using Felix and Devlin's ships hidden in higher clouds as well as having the cruiser (the one Sarah is on) turn up to help. I'm guessing that Batholomew wouldn't expect that Ainsley has been able to get re-enforcements ... his ship gets really damaged and has to break off the attack or is destroyed. Nearly taking the fleet down with it but someone saves us at the last second.

Whether or not Batholomew is killed ... well I'll leave that up to his creator, or popular vote, whichever.

I could start by being in a sniper's nest and taking a few pot shots as he approaches, just to get him nice and angry. ;P

Ha, snipers in the rigging platforms was going to be one of my first suggestions too!

I reckon his idea needs to be much more grand scale than anchor and board, like a common pirate. I was wondering if we should try disengaging, that way we could attack the ship from 4 sides rather than one. But he has to have a massive ace in the hole, some dramatic thing which will turn everything we have on its head.

It is possible he could just cut a ship loose, with, I don't know, steampunk lasers or something, then take its place, rather than destroying one, it just seemed more dramatic somehow, the engines failing, the ship breaking in two and spinning to the waves below, all important crew safe and sound.....

And yes the Osprey and Alicia Greys are our little secret, and it seems we have naval air gun support too.

ray weapons are steampunk. just saying. And Ero is a pretty darn good shot with just about everything. So, just let her know what she needs to do.

Bloody hell, one dramatic story at a time please people. And Theo is not even my character!

Ok, here is an idea. I still love the idea of Bartholemew connecting himself to the main fleet to claim it and be impossible to shake off. if Barty does indeed get his prize (Alexander messaged me to say he will!), the Abomination, and Hightails it intercontinental, how about the Abomination is the ship he cuts off with his ray gun (thanks Krylsorta) and it is then swooped up and boarded by the pirates, with bart on board, to be taken elsewhere?

Johnathan's (?) job is to overwhelm the fleet and get it too follow?

Whether Doric will remain with his ship is unknown, I don't think he wants to lose his lab. And maybe emily could be on there too, forcing him to remain?

i could persuade you to follow? non militarily?

My latest: Yes, I know that there are a few hours yet before the fight starts. I'm not trying to rush the story but I really had no other ideas for what to do. Besides, Ortana has to get out yet.
