“Up-cycled: Recycled, Repurposed, and Reclaimed Art"

and Steampunk Reception!!

CALL TO ARTISTS:
Winnsboro Center for the Arts
200 North Market Street
Winnsboro, Texas 75494

903-342-0686
wca.artscenter@gmail.com

WHAT IS RECYCLED ART?

Recycled, Repurposed, Reused & Upcycled… these terms are applied interchangeably to a wonderful and fun new art form. Projects may be artistic or homemade, it’s all about brainstorming creativity. These pieces of art are made primarily from recycled or used materials, but even new materials can be used - as long as the finished piece is a work that is unusual or "out of context" for the type of material used.

The Winnsboro Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the theme for our late summer art exhibition. If you have, or want to create a work of art that uses recycled materials, we would love to welcome you to our next gallery show.

Art Delivery to WCA: Monday, July 27th and Tuesday, July 28th (If you need to deliver your artwork the week of July 20th through July 25th, you MUST pre-arrange the delivery so that we have someone present to accept your artwork.

If you plan to participate in this exhibition, you MUST contact BRENDA ROBERTS at 903-497-6136 or email at sayadreamstudio@yahoo.com with the number of pieces, photos of your artwork, dimensions, medium used, and title (name) of your artwork.

Participating artists will be asked to become a member of the WCA. The artist will receive 75% of whatever price the item is sold for. The other 25% goes to support the Art Center. We do not give member discounts to consignment pieces. We do not collect sales tax for any consignment sale. All items without a sale price will be listed as NFS.

The artist reception and exhibition opening will be Saturday, August 1st at 6:30 pm. The exhibition will run through September 5th. The theme for the reception is “Steam Punk” and costumes are encouraged but not required. The reception will be open to the public.

Hello, Edouard. I think that you probably could get in touch with the head guy, Carlos McDaniel, and get a faster response if you went to his page and sent him a private message. There also is a Facebook page, if you belong there.

Does the Red River Regional Steampunk Expeditionary Society have some sort of business or calling card.  I work in an antique store here in Ruston and am seeing more La. Tech students come in expressing an interest with steampunk.  I would have to get permission from the owner before putting some cards in the store but I think he would be amenable.  Might be a way to recruit some more members.

Re: Cpl. Viktor Reznov search for a hand gun.  Might I humbly suggest a steampunkified   broomhandle Mauser.  It is my understanding that this was the base for Han Solo's handweapon.  If its good enough for Han Solo, its good enough for me.  Seriously I have always liked the look of the Mauser and I think it wouldn't take much modification to make it uniquely steampunk.  I think first think I would do would be to modify the handpiece, making it faceted rather than rounded.  Possibly a different material.  A Tortoiseshell look would be interesting but mother of pearl would also be interesting.  I would also like to see one done with a malachite look.  Just a few ideas.  Good look with the build.

Thank you for the lead!

Hmm..interesting. The idea that it is a closed cylinder is very reminiscent of the concept behind the M2019. The closed gas cylinder. I admire the idea of silenced firearms was thought of so early. I saw someone on the Interwebs had built silenced and optics equipped verision of the M2019 called an "Assassin" model. This might be worth a second glance with this new knowledge of the Nagant in mind.

The Russians came up with their own "futuristic" weapon around 1895 or so, the Nagant automatic revolver.  Google it and see what you think of it if it were steampunked with a few bells and whistles.

Good morning community. Rather chilly one at 34 Degrees here in Lafayette.

I'm at a fork in the road as far as a project I'm working on is going. I would like to pose a questiion and ask your opinions to perhaps assist me as far as direction.

If any of you has seen my current profile, my persona is an alternate history Russian officer. My clothing stems from Former USSR Naval attire with the Communist Hammer and Sickle removed. (My timeline has Russia becoming a member of the "Allied Nations" alongside Britain and the United States instead of becoming a Communist nation.) My issue is with a sidearm that will be worn in a hip holstrr with my kit.

I am not sure which angle to approach it. I originally considered doing a pseudo futuristic build, the "ray gun" direction. I would be utilizing a commercially available prop replica as the base for my build. My choices were between the MIB2 J2 Agent Sidearm from Factory Entertainment and the Enterprise Phase Pistol replica. Playing on the Aether powered raygun angle and suitably painted and steamed up.
My other choice was to be more conventional and stay with the cartridged round weapon. I am considering the Blade Runner styled PKD M2019 blaster. This has the look of a futuristic weapon straight out but keeps with the revolver as a sidearm look of the officer.

It will be in my holster for the most of the time (as per most conventions rules on prop weapons) but there would be occasions where I would draw it. Lights and sounds would be a neat touch and all of my choices can offer this. I am at an impasse as to which.

Given this, what do you all think?

Sounds great, but I'll be in Giddings, TX for the Weird West Fest on that date. Maybe next time! It sure sounds like fun, tho.  Octavia

I am so thrilled to finally be a member of this group! I've already met lots of great people, and look forward to participating in upcoming events. That is, when I'm not off exploring the world.
