The Steampunk Empire

The Crossroads of the Aether

Scribblers' Den

Welcome to Scribblers' Den, the online tavern where authors of the ~punk genres can meet to share concepts and philosophies of The Craft in the hope that these conversations will provide the fertile ground that will give rise to tomorrow's incredible ideas.  You needn't be a famous author, nor even a published one to be a member.  You need only be serious.  This group is not about exclusion nor limitations, in fact it has only one rule:  No personal attacks on a fellow member for expressing his or her own opinion.  Violation of that axiom will get you thrown out of here so fast it will leave you with whiplash, and this is the only warning that will be given.  So pull up a chair, order a round, and put your wares on the table.  This is the place where imaginations fly!

Hello All!I've been working on a short story for a contest on WdC while taking a break from my main story.  It's still in the same world and with two of the same characters, though a much earlier, and smaller event in the timeline.Anywho, one of my…Continue

Airship Beverage Additives

Here's another bizarre question for everyone.  Born of my indecisiveness when it comes to obscure details. How might an airship, in a steampunk world, provide cream and sugar to its passengers in their cabins?Given, in the case of the story I'm…Continue

That's good to know, David. By the way, did anyone watch the Academy Awards? It was kind of weird. They messed up the Best Picture category at the end. I also failed to see any consistency throughout the awards. There was a smattering of films winning random things.

I interviewed Baron Von Maul from the Star Wars Steampunk Universe. He's a cosplayer who I met at a couple events. It was an interesting Q&A.

I have gone to Gaslight Gathering a few times and it's about an eight-hour drive from where I work (about thirteen hours from home.)  The San Diego steampunk community has been great and many of them come over to Wild Wild West con as well.

Thanks for the video, Karen.  Looks like you had a fun time!

It sounds like some of you guys have been pretty busy. Very cool about the event, Karen. Congrats on the Wild Wild West Con, David. I would like to be an author at some events, but we don't have a lot of steampunk conventions in my area. I guess the Gaslight Gathering in San Diego is the closest one to me and it's still a few hours away. I agree about the Karnivale pics. They're really cool.

Those costumes are amaziing! Thanks for sharing, Jack. I hope our Alice is enjoying her time on the island. :-)

Morning, all.  My National Geo feed produced some pictures of Karnivale in Haiti this morning, and I thought the Friends of Alice subgroup might enjoy them.

   So, what y'all up to?

I've been pushing (and over doing it a bit) to finish rewrites for the short From the Depths - the first in the third Viola Stewart book. I had planned something minor, about 3000 words, but with pulling in threads from other stories and laying ground work for the next series, it is now about 10-11000 words.

Just about done, then onto the second short: Tomorrow, When I Die.

Had an event yesterday. Video is here:

Sorry I've been less active these past few days, things have just been hell for me lately.

Lady N-

I hope you feel better soon, if you don't already!  I hope your Lent and writing is going well, too.

David- Congrats on the new chapter, and great review of the earlier book!  I'm envious of you; getting to go to Wild Wild West Con.  My wife and I can only really do one con a year right now, and that isn't the one this time around... :(

All the same, I hope you have fun there! ^_^

In other news:

Finally got things working on WdC!  AND uploaded the first three chapters of  AoPC!  YAY!

(Though, for some reason it has decided it doesn't like indentations...)

I posted a link to it in the reading room, for those who are interested.

I finished a chapter of Owl Riders just before I started a new shift at the observatory.  Only one week until Wild Wild West Con.  I posted my schedule at my blog today:
