Other than the typical Miss America answers of "world peace" and "for no one to ever be sick" I'm open to anything ya'll think would actually help. Hunger is also kind of a moot point because we…Continue

Comment by A.L.Edwards, Rogue Clockmaster on July 4, 2011 at 5:06am Key Largo has several advantages that are easily overlooked (which is another advantage). Most people in the keys are incredibly rich, and have "winter homes" in the Keys. This means if things go bad, those houses will be vacant. Also, several communities (google "Ocean Reef" in Key Largo if you like) have tidal generators and desalinators (the one at Ocean Reef waters a golf course). Another strategic advantage is it's inaccessibility. There is a 7 mile stretch through the swamp and then a series of bridges that connects Key Largo to the mainland of Florida. Then, there's the food... its everywhere. You can grow any plant in that environment and the fish (which are "protected" currently) are more than bountiful.
...so that's why Key Largo.

Comment by A.L.Edwards, Rogue Clockmaster on June 29, 2011 at 9:55am Well I have scouted several secure places that could support enough population to get by. I've learned how to grow Penicillin (for localized usage, not pill style). I began to research local plants that can be used for medicines, but MOST importantly, I've told everyone who will listen to me about what I think is going to happen. I am by no means an expert on any of the things I'm working on but I think it would be irresponsible to not put forth effort.
If things DO go wrong, there are "safe zones" that I have across the eastern seaboard. They are in Loveland and Dayton Ohio, West Chester, Illinois, Whitesville, Georgia, Panama City Beach and Key Largo, Florida. If you can make it to these areas simply wear a white arm band(shoulder any weapon as well) and you will be treated as a friendly and directed to the safe areas.
Look, I understand that I'm paranoid and that there is a good chance I'm wrong (I often am) but I'd rather seem like a crackpot than be caught with my pants down if something does happen.

Comment by Prof Extreme..! on June 28, 2011 at 12:21pm Why,
To learn the knowledge to manufacture the equipment, to produce and serve tea to the minimum standard required for a civilised society. What else could possibly be more important.

I believe the "civilized" world is going to come to a screeching halt in the next five years (read my blog "a gathering storm" if you like). This is very troubling to me for obvious reasons, but also for more banal ones. Many people agree with me but are taking NO steps to secure their future and the futures of the ones they love.
SO... MY discussion is this, IF the world does succinctly s*** itself, what will be the most important knowledge to have acquired by that time (Penicillin production, etc.)
