Perhaps this can be used as a small-ish field guide, of sorts -

I hope this lichen is to everyone's liking . . .

Awful wordplay aside, here is an interresting fact: a lichen is a symbiotic organism associated with fungus or algae, and grows slowly on trees or rocks typically forming leaf-like or branching growth.

I was so delighted to find this lovely little gnome home . . . it does remind me of something else, though . . .

Dear Gwynnevier Westinghouse

No need for apology & thank you for the greeting.

I make the faux fungi for my entertainment & my cabinet of curiosities, however may make some available via a suitable outlet in the future.  Be sure if I do, I will let the information be available here.

Here in the UK we had an incredibly wet year 2012 (worst on record).  If we have a clement summer this year I expect a bonanza autumn 2013 for fungi.

With regard Lichen, living as I do near the sea in Cornwall on the west coast of the United Kingdom, we get fresh air straight off the Atlantic. My Apple trees abound with frilly lichen although I note dominance of one flatter species surpassing that of the frilliest that used to grow in greater abundance a decade or so ago.

I am most pleased you enjoyed my little creations 7& thank you for the commentary.

Kind regards

Boffins Bunker

Welcome good Professor.  I hope you can accept my deepest apologies for not greeting you here over one-month-ago. It is an absolute thrill that you found our little group.

Your Faux Fantasy Fungi are absolutely breath-taking, and, if I may say mouthwatering!  How does one come across such a skill; and are they available for purchase?

Last year's scorching weather was abhorrent, and eliminated nearly all opportunites for fungal observation.  I scarcely found a lush, green lichen to admire either.  Thus far, the climes appear to be cooperative, so I anticipate far more postings on my part.  In the mean time, please everyone else share your interests and findings.

Some of my Faux Fantasy Fungi Mycology Museum Specimens

Based upon C19th Victorian Papier Mache Museum Specimens, which I could not afford...I made my own. (Blue Peter childhood of sticky back plastic, washing up bottles, Val's knickers & wire coat hangers... have a lot to answer for!!!)

Well, well never thought I'd see this group.

As soon as I am able I will share some pics of my vintage Victorian/Edwardian style Mycology museum specimens from my 'Cabinet of Curiosities'.

Is there a more perfect place to rest ones self while studying mycology?
