I thought I would start a discussion about steampunk media.  This could be books, musical groups, movies, etc.Continue

Professor Florian and I are new to the Steampunk Empire. We currently hail from Keokuk, IA.  Could you please tell us when the next event will be in Iowa and how do we become active members of the Iowa live events? Thank you, Ursi

Yes, the Iowa Steampunk group on FaceBook just celebrated their first birthday with a party.  Beautiful costumes and interesting people. We have over 100 members and have a lot of activities. We recently had some great tea dueling in Iowa City.

Greetings fellow citizens of this great state! I have been away from this group for some time but from what I see on this page and on Facebook you fine people have formed a thriving community of interesting and enjoyable personas. I would like to apologize for not having spent much time on this page, or indeed in person with you ladies and gentlemen. This is an error on my part that I would very much like to rectify. In the meantime, dreamers keep on dreaming! And may the gentle hum of running clockwork sing thee to thy rest!

Des Moines event last Saturday:

Adventure in Little Italy.  Because Zombie Burger couldn’t fit us in, we changed our plans to have lunch at Baratta’s in the Historical Building.  We had a fantastic lunch with members joining us as we finished.  After a tour of the Civil War exhibit, there was a run-in with a reb.  There were various reactions from attraction to a pugilistic struggle. Then we went shopping.  We had a leisurely stroll through the Porch Light and Found Things in the East Village where many fascinating items were perused.  Next stop was the Botanical Center.  We wandered through the jungle of foliage and ended up in the Italian display.  Manly displays of strength, drinking, romantic gondola rides (including one with a romantic serenade), ladies tea time with raucous stories, and  equipment checks.  This activity was topped off by a nice Italian dinner at Tumea’s.
Attending for some or all of the event were Randy & Selena Barker, Molly Ketchum, Devon &Juju Dahle, Gary & Krys Lange, Thomas & Mary Johnston, Emma Powell, Erin Fuller, and David Oneal.  A wonderful time was had by all and friendships were created and rekindled.
