I thought I would start a discussion about steampunk media.  This could be books, musical groups, movies, etc.Continue

March Iowa Steampunk Meeting
We had a nice meeting at Smokey Rows with some new faces showing up. Natty Stormbringer and Devan and their gamer group, and Linsey were able to attend. Amanda makes steampunk jewelry and showed an item. Kate & Molly made their first meeting.
We discussed some steampunk books and movies.
We discussed possible activities:
• Shopping adventure
• Hands-on activity like creating goggles
• Visit art galleries
• Roleplaying
• Visit Living History Farms with Picnic?
• Picnic at park
• Visit Terrace Hill, Jordan House, or Salisbury House
• Ride the steam train in Boone!
• Go to the State Fair
• Clear Lake Victorian Christmas (later)
• Steamboat ride on Mississippi
• Visit Prairie Meadows for the Horse Racing
• Visit the Historical Building
• Have a Charles Dickens or Titanic event
• Have an event at Sleepy Hollow
• Go to a Steampunk movie
I have left out or gotten some things wrong, so feel free to make comments or give further ideas.

Yes, the meeting is still on.  Unfortunately, it is not a good weekend for some people.  But whoever can make it is welcome.

Suggestions for agenda items?

I was sorry to miss the last meeting. I was in California where did see several large blimps (which seemed appropriate for that day). I like the idea of visiting the Living History Farm. Is the meeting next weekend still on?

Sounds delightful!

They don't play to win, it is just for fun. It is an opportunity to dress up and have some fun. We could tour Living History Farms and have a picnic.  Make it an afternoon get together there. We could be the Alternative History "Horus" team. I'll look into getting caps.  Horus is my aetherflyer.  Any interest?

Haha, I would love to but a gimp leg and my inability to throw a good pitch are not qualities you would want on your team.

Who is up for playing a little baseball, in costume, of course!

Here is a local con that is not specific to Steampunk, but would certainly welcome us. Maybe we could meet there. Think about it & share your ideas.

Iowa SteamPunk Meeting
February 25, 2012

What a great meeting!

Natty Stormbringer came and brought some friends on their way to another event. We did introductions and had a nice chat. Hopefully, some (if not ALL) will consider joining our group.

Linsey has some interest in steampunk and stopped by to see us. She liked our meeting and has joined! Nice to meet you and welcome.

Anna was able to make it and encouraged us to get in some photos. Good to see you again!

Randy & Selena were in full regalia! Nice costumes!

Thomas made the trip to join us. Great to see you and glad you were able to find Smokey Rows!

I was there with my Captain Grey Wulfe of the aetherflyer Horus uniform.

We had a very pleasant conversation and shared interests and news in the world of steampunk.

Then I presented an introduction to roleplaying using my almost completed SteamPunk Xpress rules. We created characters (very nice ones!) and had short session to become familiar with the mechanics. Fortunately, they found and defused the bomb before it blew up the Horus over the Mediterranean!

Emma Obscura and Lady Patch were missed as they were unable to attend :-(

I am thinking of having our next meeting in the afternoon, either on Saturday or Sunday.
