Lecture title: Curse Tablets: Getting Ahead the Old Fashioned Way
Come and discover how the ancient Greco-Roman world used small etched lead sheets to seek not only revenge and retribution, but also love and happiness. In addition to a discussion of the purpose, production, and use of curse tablets, this presentation will show participants how to make their own in case the need ever arises.
Eitel August Wilhelm Adelbert Oskar Joachim Viktoria, Graf von
Pappenheim, is a specialist in ancient evil manuscripts working in the
service of the German Reich.
Jim Kollenbroich has a PhD in History and works in the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Due to the space constraints at Owen and Engine, our Society may either have a maximum of 15 people for the parlor room or we may use the entire upstairs, but must purchase $1000 in food and drink as a group (this means a minimum of 40 attendees buying a full brunch and drink, around $25 before tip and tax). So, in order to plan for the event, we ask that you RSVP by emailing the professor at kgreen5@gmail.com to confirm that you will be attending the lecture. All RSVPs will be served on a first come, first serve basis. Should we reach 40 confirmed attendees, everyone will be welcome (and welcome to bring guests too). Otherwise, your name will go on our waiting list for one of 15 coveted slots in the parlor room and you'll be notified the week of the event!
As always, neo-Victorian and Steampunk dress is strongly encouraged at all meetings of the Owen Society.

Comment by Thomas Forsythe on June 18, 2012 at 10:41am A query: Will there be a fifth meeting of the Owen Society at the end of this month?
Comment by Dr. Jeffrey S. Kupperman on May 23, 2012 at 11:42am Ms. McCoy,
This is most excellent, thank you for the information. I was, at one time, something of an expert on the subject myself, though I now mostly focus on the Platonism of Iamblichus and all that it has influenced. As he influenced Pseudo-Dionysius, Marsilio Ficino, Heinrich Cornellius Agrippa, Tomasso Campanella, and Johann Valentin Andreae, his influence on the Victorians, though hidden, is quite important.
It is my most sincere hope I will be able to meet and converse with such fine people as yourselves this November.
Comment by Amber McCoy on May 22, 2012 at 3:30pm Dr. Kupperman,
As a matter of fact, Professor Mandragore himself will be there as well as his associates Doctor Xavier Day and Master Graf von Pappenheim who are the visionaries and original founders of the Owen Society. I am the professors' head apprentice and I will be attending with the professor along with our companion and protege Miss Donna Bell. It is the Professor's intention to have a publication of the collected papers presented this year at the Owen society meetings available for sale at Teslacon and I for one am advocating that the professor and his co-founders of the Owen society be members speak as panelists as they are of course the leading authorities on matters of the Victorian Occult. Please stay tuned, as November approaches, we will provide more details. We are also on Facebook, and you can visit www.terramysterium.com for more details as well (The Owen Society is an Educational and Steampunk Off-shoot of the performance troupe Terra Mysterium)
