The Crossroads of the Aether
Yeeeeeehaw! Where are all of our Western lovers of the Steampunk lifestyle? This is our sanctuary to discuss the lack of cons, the cons we do have, and of course, the cons we may create ourselves! This is also a great place to discuss things period!

We're coming back and we are changing locations (because we'd roast if it was at the Red Lion again...)
We're going to be at the Davis Conference Center in Layton Utah and are going to revamp the convention with a Steampunk "Tortuga" feel!!! Registration has opened BUT we are constantly adding new mini-events, contests, AND this year we will have THREE musical Steampunk bands to entertain you guys!

Comment by Nivatima AhlaSteam on September 24, 2012 at 6:33pm Just created an event for a Steampunk Masquerade Ball here in Utah. Come out if you can! http://www.thesteampunkempire.com/events/return-to-sleepy-hollow-a-...
Thanks, Niatima! I am glad somebody (besides me! HA!) enjoyed them.
Go to http://exm.nr/QkRUi2 and it will take you through the application process. If you want to write your sample articles that they ask for in a word program first and then paste them in when asked that is sometimes easier. I believe they ask for 2, one on your topic, and the other can be anything.
They have weird standards for writing. For instance, they ask you to have section headings and have them in bold. They will tell you what is required, though, and if you are hired at first they have the editor on you every time, checking out your work, making suggestions. After you have been doing them "right" long enough they only check every once in awhile.
I hope you get in! We SO need one. By the way, Salt Lake doesn't HAVE a Steampunk writer, so click "suggest a topic" on your application, then pull down Society and Culture under category, then write in Steampunk under Topics. Then you just continue with the application. When they ask for a referral put my whole name, BethAnn Mayberry. GOOD LUCK!!!
Comment by Nivatima AhlaSteam on September 22, 2012 at 7:29am BethAnn: Loved the articles!! I wouldn't mind giving writing a try.
Venice: I'll keep my eyes and ears open hun!
Looking to my "network" and asking if anyone knows of any job openings. I am experienced in administrative legal assistant, electro-mechanical and medical assembly, retail, any sewing and/or crafting related job and have schooling in interior design. Any referral and/or reference would be appreciated!
So, a little shameless self-promotion. I finally found a way to slip Steampunk into my Exotic Pets column in the Examiner. Check it out?
Salt City Steamfest attracts Steampunks to Utah, but what about their pets? http://exm.nr/steampets1
Salt City Steamfest part 2: the League of Extraordinary Steampets http://exm.nr/steampets2
On a related note, I think The Salt Lake Examiner needs a Steampunk columnist. I would love to apply, but I just can't. If there is someone here with a talent for writing who is well-connected to the local Steampunk Community, please let me know and I will send them a reference. It pays little, but some, and it is fun.
