Manners and Etiquette

As adherents to the steampunk genre I may have erroneously assumed that proper manners and etiquette were expected of each and every poster on this site. Was I incorrect? Or, is personal slander accepted as a form of address amongst the citizens of this community? Any constructive comments are accepted.
