Profile Information

Introduction
Hello! I am a published author of fiction of the historical variety with a deep and abiding affection for the Victorian age. Need I say more? Fine, fine. I'm also an avid reader of all manner of fiction and research books (piles and piles of research books), a somewhat proficient seamstress and a connoisseur of costumes, a lover of tea, and an incorrigible wishful thinker.
What? You want to know about the novels? All right, you needn't be pushy. My debut, THE BELLY DANCER (Berkley, 2009), concerns the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and the real-life belly dancing scandal that occurred there. My second, DANCING AT THE CHANCE (Berkley, 2012), is set against the backdrop of the vaudeville world of Old New York, circa 1907. There's love. There's betrayal. There's redemption. There's laughing and crying. And did I mention dancing? Yes, there is lots and lots of dancing. If you read them, let me know. I'd love to hear what you think. (Compliments especially, but criticisms accepted, too... What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right? Fine. I think you know what I mean.)

In a perfect world, this is the gorgeous dress I'll be wearing at booksignings in the spring. And probably to the RenFaire, too, because I'd like to do something different :)

And I'll definitely be making one of these:

Q&A with Dancer and Modern Vaudevillian Jen Rae

Posted on April 5, 2012 at 8:31am 0 Comments

In DANCING AT THE CHANCE, I write about the world of vaudeville as it existed at the turn of the last century, but if you haven’t already noticed, there’s a good deal of vaudeville to be found in the world even today. You can find it in theaters, in nightclubs, even on the street, if you know where to look. Thanks to modern performers like Jen Rae of…

Q&A with Author and Vaudeville Expert Trav S.D.

Posted on March 24, 2012 at 1:04pm 0 Comments

Whenever I begin a new research project, books are always the first place I turn—and it was no different when I set out to learn as much as I could about vaudeville, especially as it existed in turn-of-the-last-century New York. I searched out new books, old books, library books, any books, really, that referenced vaudeville in some way. The result was an extensive…

I'm looking for a good, old-fashioned tea service. Anyone have a favorite in the South O.C. area?
