Introduction
The lean man climbed up the short staircase to the podium, his ebony suit swaying slightly in time with the gravity of his step. His placid facade of confidence lay betrayed only by the knit in his brow as he gazed over the crowd and cleared his throat to signal that he was about to begin.
"Four score and seventy years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are on the brink of a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure against such an enemy. We would be met on the battlefield with great resistance, possibly in greater numbers and with a superior force than we ourselves can muster. I would implore every one of us to go into his home or the home of his neighbour and join with his family in ferverent prayer before we decide on such an undertaking."
The crowd dispersed, according to the president's word, murmuring quietly to one another and nodding in grave assent. I, too, returned to my abode and prayed, desperately.

< Much Later > > >

The metallic clank-clang arose like rolling thunder, heralding the coming destruction. Oil and ash scented the humid waves of grungey air that accompanied the distant approaching shadows. The hiss of huge pistons played against the staccato of thousand mechanical steps.

My tip: focus on the enjoyment of your craft, and that alone accounts for an unconditional success. A pure enjoyment of such a gift. A thankful appreciation of what you have. :)
