Profile Information

Introduction
Discovered Steampunk existed years back when someone walked up to me and asked,"are you steampunk?" Then I had to go look it up. I guess I am, I work with ancient machines that have belts, pulleys, cranks and flywheels. I tend to invent odd things that catch fire or throw sparks, and I run a vintage electric system and Edison phone system on a reenactment site. :)

see www.hansonmechanical.com for adventures, vehicles, and restorations I do.

Where do you get this stuff???

Some hints and tips:

-Steamshows and gas engine shows!!!

Most Steam and Gas engine shows in rural areas feature large flea markets. These are not the "Mom's crap from the 1970's" fleamarkets. This is where you will find everything from vintage display cases for your gadgets, to antique furniture, to guages, to that vintage tool or widget that will add an extra detail and authenticity to your kitchen or workshop. Plus, the deals are great at these shows. (and the people are really nice too:)

Some deals I have found at these shows: general store counter display case 10.00, antique pulleys for shaft driven equipment 5.00 apiece, 1850's drill press with giant flywheels 75.00 etc. etc.

-Want to play with some real steam? Pick up an antique toy steam engine off of ebay. Worn and battered ones go for cheap, still work, and look great on a shelf. I have one that is electric and safe to run in the house, another that requires alchohol tablets and melted a hole in my driveway.

-Many big cities have architectural salvage places. Chicago has Salvage One, Baltiumore has Second Chance and Housewerks. These places have all sorts of Victorian details that can spruce up everything from a house to a studio apartment. Last great deal, Secondchance in Baltmore had sections of Baltimore and Ohio RR victorian Iron fence, 20 feet for 500.00

I started working on "D" sliders when I first went to sea as a boy. The Fire Room bilge pumps were just about the size of you little traction engine there... There is nothing greater than a good steam engine, they are a living thing, and a joy forever...;-)

NO I don't...I issue them! :) LOL

Thanks for the offer. I would like one very much.
I am using Prussian officers in our film for TeslaCon. They will have a slightly different look- but very recognizable. Stay in touch.
