"I have some vintage rabbit skins that have gotten brittle with age. Not sure anything will work but I got some Dr. Jackson's Hide Rejuvenator from Tandy. I haven't tried it yet (been too busy with book orders) but it says that it cleans,…"

"Ok, thanks for the additional info. I don't do a lot of shaping with my leather because there's not a lot required when you make a book that doesn't already happen when you cover the boards, etc. I'll have to play around with…"

"Ok, I understand what's going on in the picture now. The hat looks great how you did it so the piping worked :D   Thanks for the tutorial and for answering all of my questions!"

step 3 glueing the hat

"Oh, I didn't realize it came in different weights--I've had a roll for a long time to use as an armature under small sculpted clothes and have yet to use it. I always end up using something else for the armature."

The finnished hat. just need to adjust the brim

"Oops, meant to say I "wouldn't" have to use it if I didn't have stiffener in between, although I frequently use sharpies to do the edges of my leather so I'd probably end up using it anyway :D"

"Oh, so you think light weight will work better? That makes sense for the top portion. Do you think the brim should be slightly thicker leather or does it have to be thin enough to shape, curve and mold?"

"Ok, I'll definitely be giving this a try some time. I understood the Sharpie thing I just figured I would have to use it if I didn't have stiffener sandwiched with leather. Thanks!"

"*claps* Thanks for the tutorial!   Now, if I were to use veg-tanned leather, I could skip the lining, sharpie, etc., right? Also, how you determine the proportions on the pattern (i.e., how big the sides are compared to the top, compared to the…"

"Ok, I see that in the other photo the hat was right side out. So, it would be easier to attach the sides to the top of the hat while the sides are unsewn and then sew the sides together after the top with piping has been sewn, right?"
