Welcome, Jha Goh!

A Brief Introduction

Jha is a writer, scholar, and general slacker with a control freak streak. She tackles postcolonial and racial issues within steampunk. She hosts the Literary Salon and believes strongly in literacy causes. Hailing from the peninsula of Malaysia, she currently resides on the West Coast of North America, specifically in California. She has an undergrad degree in English, (Hons, b******!) and a minor in Creative Writing.

One of Jha's personal spaces on the Internetz is Intersectionality Dreaming, where she tackles such arcane and academic topics as Star Trek, race, gender, and writing. She also has a pet steampunk project, called Silver Goggles, where she explores colonial and racial narratives in steampunk. Silver Goggles is also groundwork for her Major Research Project in her MA in Cultural Studies and Critical Theory at McMaster University. It is also a recording space for her PhD in Comparative Literature at University of California, Riverside, where she will tackle issues of neocolonialism, capitalist consumerism and multicultural rhetoric in steampunk.

She is most famous for her work at Tor.com during Steampunk Month, 2009. She has contributed to Steampunk: Reloaded (Tachyon, October 2010), Fashion Talks (SUNY Press, 2011), Beyond Victoriana, and Racialicious. When not focusing on her thesis, Jha can be often found on Twitter and Tumblr. Her interests tend towards literature, socio-political/semi-philosophical commentary, music, and the culinary arts, as opposed to aesthetics. In other words, she is sometimes very smart, but cannot dress well.

Steampunk Shakspeare Update

:O I know, I'm so sorry, I should come back to Steampunk Empire more often than just "once in a while" but I am so bad at social networks like Ning! Anyway, The Omnibus of Dr. Bill Shakes is well on its way, just waiting for an introduction from the famous Steampunk Scholar Mike Perschon now!

I also had a good run of conventions last year, and am hoping to attend a few more this coming year before settling down into a PhD. I'll be continuing my work on steampunk, but this time…

If that title doesn't intrigue you, I don't know what will, but yes, the Steampunk imprint of Flying Pen Press will be releasing this anthology, and the editors are Matt Delman (of Free the Princess and Doctor Fantastique's Show of Wonders), Lia Keyes (hostess of the…

It is awesome. You must get it when it comes out. And Leviathan too, since that's the first book.

I will be writing a review of it on Tor.com soon.

Jha Goh replied to sami v.'s discussion possuer vs. die hard...i really want your opinion for my research

Good luck with your presentation and term papers, Jha! I hope your thesis goes well. I submitted my thesis in February. We've only just organised my examiners (Australian PhDs require external examination by several experts instead of dissertation defense) so it'll be a few months before I find out if I've passed or not. I swear it's more stressful handing the thesis in than writing it in the first place!
