I have an unopened copy of the 1990 Space:1889 computer game by Paragon Software.  I don't have anything that can remotely run it.  It is on 5.25" floppy disks and says it requires IBM PC/XT/AT/PS2…Continue

John Campbell replied to Lady Rayna Keller's discussion What can turned into a Steampunk Persona?
"Be whatever, or whomever, you like, and don't worry about what others may think. SteamPunk is not historical recreation, even to the limited extent the SCA is, so there is no "right" way to participate in it. Basically, if you…"

John Campbell replied to Lady Rayna Keller's discussion What can turned into a Steampunk Persona?
"For 5th graders, some possibilities could be cabin boy (or girl, but would probably have to be an officer's daughter or ward; the proprieties must be observed), midshipman, and engineer's apprentice (SOMEone has to hold things while the…"

John Campbell replied to Captain Steam-Iron Ivan Bonneau's discussion gas-no, electric-maybe, steam- is it possible?
"Look at "Live Steam Magazine" (http://www.livesteam.net/home); they have had articles on how people have converted various vehicles to steam power. One apparently common conversion involved converting an old-style Volkswagen engine to…"

John Campbell replied to Madame Nicole Monique's discussion Beyond gears and googles

John Campbell replied to Lady Rayna Keller's discussion Why did you choose to be a Lord, Lady, Countess, Captain, etc?
"I sometimes go by Captain Campbell, though not here; Airship Captain is probably the most hackneyed persona in SteamPunk, after Air Pirate, but I actually have an Airship (granted, she is too small to ride in, but she came in second at the Airship…"

Profile Information

Introduction
DISCLAIMER: Part or all of the following is subject to change without notice, up to and including my name as I work out the details....

I am the captain and, until very recently, owner of the merchant sailing airship Eleanor Page, home port New York, New York, and contracted to the Long "L" Lines. I became Captain of the Eleanor Page 11 years ago, and bought her 6 years ago when the previous owner was foolish enough to try to fill an inside straight and bankrupted himself. Partially as a result, I do not gamble for more than 100 dollars at a sitting (there is NO such thing as a sure thing). Under my command, the Eleanor Page has made 7 Atlantic crossings, but mostly works the North American trade. Though the Eleanor Page normally carries high-value cargo (airships simply haven't the lifting capacity for bulk cargoes), we have been known to carry passengers. Since the Atlantic and most of the United States is pretty well patrolled by the appropriate authorities, the Eleanor Page has never encountered pirates, but the crew trains constantly in case we do. Currently, the Eleanor Page has been bought by a Professor at Boston Tech (more formally, but less commonly, known as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology), who displays most of the outward symptoms of insanity, but considerable funding, for an expedition to Australia. [The tale of that expedition will be told in the story I am writing, under the working title of The Great Australian Meteor, wherein the name of the Captain is David Lawrence; as I said, my name may be subject to revision....]

I have an identical twin brother, about whom I sigh frequently but support financially, who researches the more extreme realms of Science; so far his endeavors have returned enough money that my financial losses have not quite been painful. [This allows me to have a Mad Scientist alternate persona ;)]
