John Campbell replied to Bronze Knight's discussion Casual mens steampunk shirts?
"T-shirts have been around since about the time of the Spanish-American War in 1898, for Navy and Marines, as an undergarment and hot-conditions work shirt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-shirt), so the Henleys won't really be necessary unless…"

Space:1889 Computer Game

I have an unopened copy of the 1990 Space:1889 computer game by Paragon Software.  I don't have anything that can remotely run it.  It is on 5.25" floppy disks and says it requires IBM PC/XT/AT/PS2 or Tandy 1000&3000, or compatible, with 640K required. Joystick and mouse optional.  If anyone is going to the Symposium, or is in the Atlanta area, and has a machine that can run this, I will let you have the game, box and all, if you will bring the machine to the Symposium (or someplace in…See More

John Campbell replied to Lady Ankhasha H. Leatherbustle's discussion Jacob's Ladders...Too dangerous for a backpack?

Profile Information

Introduction
DISCLAIMER: Part or all of the following is subject to change without notice, up to and including my name as I work out the details....

I am the captain and, until very recently, owner of the merchant sailing airship Eleanor Page, home port New York, New York, and contracted to the Long "L" Lines. I became Captain of the Eleanor Page 11 years ago, and bought her 6 years ago when the previous owner was foolish enough to try to fill an inside straight and bankrupted himself. Partially as a result, I do not gamble for more than 100 dollars at a sitting (there is NO such thing as a sure thing). Under my command, the Eleanor Page has made 7 Atlantic crossings, but mostly works the North American trade. Though the Eleanor Page normally carries high-value cargo (airships simply haven't the lifting capacity for bulk cargoes), we have been known to carry passengers. Since the Atlantic and most of the United States is pretty well patrolled by the appropriate authorities, the Eleanor Page has never encountered pirates, but the crew trains constantly in case we do. Currently, the Eleanor Page has been bought by a Professor at Boston Tech (more formally, but less commonly, known as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology), who displays most of the outward symptoms of insanity, but considerable funding, for an expedition to Australia. [The tale of that expedition will be told in the story I am writing, under the working title of The Great Australian Meteor, wherein the name of the Captain is David Lawrence; as I said, my name may be subject to revision....]

I have an identical twin brother, about whom I sigh frequently but support financially, who researches the more extreme realms of Science; so far his endeavors have returned enough money that my financial losses have not quite been painful. [This allows me to have a Mad Scientist alternate persona ;)]
