When people look at steampunk and steampunks they are presented with inspiration and imagery straight from the Victorian period. They often ask is this some form of victorian re-enactment or an attempt to ressurect the Victorian period as a whole. The fact that steampunk is often described as neo-victorian people equate with “new victorians” and immediately assume that steampunks seek to adopt all aspects of the period, lock stock and two steaming barrels. I have not updated my blog for a week due to pressures of work. Last weekend the Steampunk Art Exhibition closed in Oxford. We had a first class day with around fifty steampunks gathering to celebrate the passing of the event along with more than 2000 members of the general public! My blog yesterday was about industrial production. Ordinarily whenever a company starts to mass produce items which are deliberately aimed at steampunks people immediately start to cry out "foul" and decry that it is either an attempt to cheapen our cherished scene, making it mainstream or to cash in our us exploiting our trusting natures.
