"I swear by AquaNet. Provides a lot of grip for bobby pins & combs to cling to, and it's cheap.  Just use in a well ventilated area and don't get too close to any open flames. :D"

"My mini-hat has an elastic strap which goes behind my head.  I adjust it so the hair covers the elastic and then I use decorative bobby pins hooking both the hair and the elastic.  I have short hair so the teasing/ponytail suggestions…"

"Lady McCormick has it right, and a comb + bobby pins will hold as well. Other ideas are teasing/back combing the small ponytail & hairspraying it underneath to give even more grip for a comb to hold to. To keep it from flopping around, secure it…"

"I am also very interested in this particular subject. The one mini-hat that I made I tore a hair clip of of another hair accessory and then taped in onto the bottom of my hat. It... didn't work that great. It stayed in my hair but it flopped…"

"Simply because they look ridiculous.  That and they are more related to the "Lolita" style of cosplay than anything, and that is yet another strike against it in my book."

"Staples, obviously ;)  Seriously, consider hatpins; they may not work as well for a mini-hat, unless the hairstyle has a bump that the pin can grip, but hatpins were a part of every lady's wardrobe, and were decorative jewelry, and…"

"You have the right idea with the comb and crossed bobby pins.  Its exactly what I'd recommend.  I used to instruct dancers in the art of securing wigs for Irish dance competitions  Many of these girls had thin straight hair that…"

"I'm not a hat-wearer myself, and haven't seen many mini-hats that I particularly liked.  But, perhaps I should reserve judgment - I may very well love mine.  Or at least tolerate it.   The things we do for an outfit."

"A headband is a good idea. Sadly I look like a young girl when headbands are involved. I may give the snap clips a try though."

"Yes, fascinators, thank you. I've mixed feelings on mini-hat fascinators myself, so I'm not sure I entirely disagree Mr. Finnegan, however I am curious to know why you dislike them."
