Dear Lady Beatrix, You have my sincerest sympathies. Although I have had very few dealings with cats, I do understand that they can be a troublesome lot. Spy cats not withstanding. I do hope all is well with you and yours and hope you have more time to chat in future. I myself am sorely pressed on every quarter by this infernal vocation I find myself caught up in. All work and no play and so forth. I must say though that our correspondence is pleasant diversion. As always, your humble servant, Prof. Benjamin Franklin Pierce

Dear Lady Beatrix, Thank you ever so much for befriending me. I hope that in the coming days we can become better acquainted but, alas I haven't time to chat. At the moment, the evil tyrant that employs me is demanding my services. I am enjoying your photographs and I will endeavor to view them all soon. Your humble servant, Prof. Benjamin Franklin Pierce

What is perhaps most fascinating about the characters, the costumes, and the era they evoke is that it is all an enormous paradox.

Nostalgia is fundamental to pop culture. With globalization, growing technologies, and a fast-paced network of information and people, history has become a form of escapism.
