- Hello there, Jen here. I am breaking the fourth wall to explain the literary project my profile page has become. My blog here has become the Memoirs of Mina Mori, natural historian/belly dancer/adventuress. Entries date back to 1893, the year she met some key individuals in her life and joined the Airship Nocturne.
This isn't your ordinary fictional blog though. Hidden beneath the neo Victorian facade and exotic characterization are truths or connections to reality. For example, I did briefly live in Japan, and I used to study Drosophila (hence the Thomas Morgan Hunt references). The World's Columbian Exposition, where belly dance (a hobby of mine) was introduced to the U.S., serves as a parallel for A-kon 21, the event that got me into the local steampunk scene and led to the assemblage of Airship Nocturne. While I have no control over world history, sometimes things just happen to line up with events in my modern day life.
Since it's been over a year since A-kon 21, a lot of entries are going to be reflections of the past. Eventually I'll catch up, and you can enjoy following Mina on her journeys. I doubt that I (Jen) will pop up anywhere else, but if you ask nicely, I may be able to provide annotations. Now, I leave you with a word from Mina. Happy reading!

Greetings. I do not enjoy revealing all the details of myself at once so I will keep this brief. If you do not know me, I am Mina Mori. If you do know me, it may be under a different name and guise. I love science, music, and adventure. My mother says I have a restless soul, and it is this inability to settle that has caused me to study lifeforms in the wild, travel around the world, dance boldly, and take up new hobbies.
My recent journeys have brought me back to America, where I look for new opportunities and a means to travel. Fortunately, I met the right group of people, and now I am a member of the Airship Nocturne. We are a group of scientists, entertainers, inventors, ex-military officers, and adventurers who love exploration, innovation, and humanitarian causes. I do not know where we go next, but that is what makes the future so exciting.

I have less than two months left of performing at the World’s Columbian Exposition. Then it is off to a new adventure aboard the Nocturne. Almost immediately after I wrote my last entry did great misfortune fall upon Joshua and me. A great storm arrived, causing the cancellation of our trip to a resort in Texas with some friends. I think a couple of them would have braved the weather had they not fallen ill or become confused about the date of departure.
