Sounds of Steam, Steampunk’s Cyber City, New Babbage of 2nd Life, April 22th, 2013One one level, of course, New Babbage is a series of magnetic impulses imprinted on a set of disks in a nameless data center, running Linden Labs' Second Life protocol. But that's just the physics of it. To say that New Babbage is 'just' a computer-generated environment would be like saying that Paris is 'just' stone and plaster. The City of New Babbage is a consensual hallucination of a Victorian-era Steampunk…See More

Introduction
Good day, I am the host and creative director of Sounds of Steam, a weekly, Steampunk-themed, internet-radio show.

We have our usual weekly segments of Drink-Du-Jour, This Week In History, Opening and Closing Toasts, Upcoming Events, and Steampunk Music Hour. We discuss the influence of Steampunk in the world of movies, literature, music, gaming, and every other corner of culture we can find. We interview convention goers and hosts, artists, bands, writers, inventors, time travelers and craftsmen. We explore the hobbies, sub genres, geographic influences and fringe cultures that help shape Steampunk every day. All of this blended with wit, sarcasm and a pub-like atmosphere.

I have traveled long and far to reach others like myself. It began with expeditions into the Dark Continent, odd storms, study of these magnetic fluctuations, and the finding of portals! But wild ones that had no anchor or way back!

But my story begins a bit before that. I was raised to be torn between two lives, one the drunken Irish roots I adore, and the other the debates of court life. I decided to blend the two and try and make peace with both halves of my life. It didn't work. Out of rebellion I fled to do what I truly love, exploration and science.

I traveled far and wide, following the old spice and silk trade routes and visiting exotic lands. I studied with their scholars, scientists, religious heads and... well actually, I would talk to these people and glean what I could in quick fashion before moving on.

You see, I am much to eclectic and varied in my tastes and interests to stay anywhere too long. I love to meet a wide selection of people to learn from them and share with them. And that is what led me to that one fateful expedition in Africa I mentioned above.

I have traveled to the 16th century and worked aboard ships as a pirate, the 20th century to fight in their world wars (then deserted and went into gin joints and the jazz scene, met some interesting figures that liked cigars and guns), the 21st century to see their wonders as they finally begin to discover what I found centuries before, but they call it quantum physics! Been to a few other places too, but never seem to tan. I am looking into that phenomenon.

I have a Masters in Religion, a Doctorate in Metaphysics, and am a Professional Stand Up Philosopher.

I thank you, good Sir. My annual libations, which I was fortunate enough to celebrate heartily at MarsCon in Williamsburg, in the Commonwealth of Virginia, were a great success. Fortunately, I was sufficiently conservative with my consumption of roasted pheasant and absinthe that I shall likely survive to attend the event again next year. I shall be displaying daguerreotypes from the event on my S.E. page forthwith. Good day, Sir.

The Whistling Fire is online only, like many newer literary journals.  It requires no money and has a far wider audience than a print journal could ever reach.

lol. Congac! Now there's a drink. Congac and baklava Mmm. As you have guessed HIM is one of my fav bands. As for the California breakfast..that would be yogurt and fruit. I call it California breakfast due to the fact, not many in CA make a southern breakfast like biscuits & gravy. :)

Dear Randal, lol nooo you have misunderstood my evening last. I am not interested in this man romantically and I may have misused the word "enthralled". He is more in to quanity vs quality where women are concerned, I'm sure! I detest wonderers and have never been taken in by one for I am wise and onto them.  I was running late and joined my friends at the tavern but found myself in a play of sorts. I did not eat for I would have been the sole person munching on wings and potato skins. I barely had time to join them for I ran home and put on jeans and a HIM tee-shirt and Sketchers. As you can see I was not dressed to catch anyones eye, so my part was innocent.lol. and besides this man would never do. If I have to explain over and over who the band is on my tee which was the case for he cornered me as I came out if the ladies room. I mean he has to be living under a rock to not know who Ville Valo is!  I'm sure he moved on to other ladies once I left.  I don't patron bars to pick up men.  I have found nicer men, strike up conversations with me at the book stores.  At the same time I don't want a choir boy.. I do like  handsome leading men for I am a bit traditional and I like men that drink in moderation and I rather like the aroma of their good cigars.  :)

I won't skip meals today for I am about to have a wonderful lunch and I made myself a California style breakfast this morn.

                Sincerely ~Mademoiselle Suzette~

Dear Randal, You have found me hungry again and the food you describe,  I applaud you but it tortures me so to think about it for I have skipped supper once again.  I was foolish this evening and joined my friends at the local tavern for some merryment and nursed one Corona w/lime but forgot to grab a bite on the way.  I am a better listener then a conversationalist and I became enthralled in a particular persons verbose skills after he had many drinks. Miraculously he began to speak fluent Italian even though his witnesses swear he does not know the language.  He was quite entertaining so I skipped ordering food in order to listen to him.

Speaking of drink, I don't have the chance to do it often and I so enjoy it when I do and have yet to find out all the liquors and beer that I would enjoy and favor.  I am most interested in this Absinthe that you gentlemen seem to admire.  I hear it taste like black licorice(I've always liked RED licorice.lol) I'm not sure I would like Absinthe.

I hope this note finds you happy and healthy.

                      Sincerely ~Mademoiselle Suzette Cherie~
