Steamies are generally well received by Rennies at MDRF. That being said, We typically only do one "Time Travelers Day" a season. I was also a well known Rennie before, and I am a hot young thing, so I can pretty much get away with wearing anything I want. Many Rennies are closet Steamies too, so we are generaly welcomed as long as we don't "lay it on too thick" with trying to pretend we are really time traveling.
As for the weapon...I snuck it in....plain and simple. I had a large jacket and placed it under that. If your ray gun really looks like a toy or a fake gun, you prolly won't have anyone give you trouble. Mine is a reproduction volcanic repeating pistol, so they might have confiscated it or asked me to leave if they had seen it. The no weapons policy particularly refers to bladed weapons bc there was a time when weapons could be brought and there were drunken sword/axe fights...not good. So feel free to bring your fake guns, but don't be surprised if they ask you to put it back in the car.
